After much frustration with my 920, 930 and W3520 the last few days I broke down and decided it is time to take a ride on the Gulfcar into Gulftown.

More to come...this is 1st boot :)

Ambient is around 15C

Oh and batch is 3003B242

What pleases me the most in the few minutes I have had it that it appears not to be bclck limited as one would expect from a Xtreme CPU.
Actually my 920/930 has a very tough time booting at 220 bclcks nevermind Wprime stable

For some reason this RIIE allow gulftown to easily go past what has been my source of frustration on the Bloomfields, I cannot for the love of it do 225 bclck on the Bloomfields, the Gulftown, this one and the Xeon I had a week ago has no problem

Anyone care to share ideas why that would be?

Because bloomfields have sucked since they were released. We've been waiting for the 32nm stuff to get back to our 2.0v shenanigans. :)

I could boot at 230 bclck...but enough of bclck, this is not why I cracked open my piggy bank...steady as she goes, temps look good, v-core very moderate for a 12 thread chip at 4.5 G's

Tried the 27, 29, or 31x multis at all yet? Would allow you to lower blck, run the chip faster, and keep your memory at it's current speed if you switch to 2:10 if it's unable to run higher with tight timings.

Still going up :)

This is moved to the Intel CPU section per request, for everyone to enjoy. And while my mobo is crippled and the replacement won't arrive until Wednesday, I will post some preliminary results with my Gulftown on air later too. My cooling setup is very sinilar to Ed's except that I don't have an AC unit feeding cold air directly into the intake of it.

5Ghz on Air with the most powerfull retail CPU on the market.
