Thinking of upgrading

Hey guys,

Its been a couple years since I built this computer that is in my sig and I think its time for an upgrade. I just want to be able to run things faster. What would you guys recommend?

Also thinking about upgrading my PSU also since its a bit outdated.

And what do you guys think about this monitor? I'm thinking of getting it since its on sale.

would just do a small upgrade, i dont know how much money you want to spend, but if you have a microcenter by you they have the cheapest cpu prices, and if u buy cpu/mobo they give you 40$ off the mobo...

and i think right now they have some ddr 3 1600 ram for sale, and with a mobo/cpu you get an extra 10$ off the ram...

likely your best bet. I'd say though you'd be better to save your money and get something like a 7950, or a 7970.

If you want to run thing faster then you need an ssd

He already has a 6850 which is probably faster than both of those cards. Definitely faster than the 7770.

Is it? Reviewed one but recall it being in the ballpark as it beat the 6770 handily which would then make it 6850ish. Don't recall though.

7770 and 6850 are extremely close, near identical in performance. I think at release, the 6850 was more powerful, but improvements through driver updates and being a better OCer eventually gave the edge 7770.

That being said, they're still close enough that it's not worth upgrading to.

With that said, what would be the ideal upgrade I should go for?

For sure I want to purchase a new monitor.

But other than that, should I just upgrade by getting an SSD with a power supply, or wait a little longer and upgrade cpu/mobo/ram the works?

Save a bit more and go for a bigger GPU upgrade, IMO. 7950 perhaps.

+3 Go medium big on the GPU or don't do it at all. Like we said from almost post one. $200 isn't going to make much of a diff. $300, then you's talkin'.

Gpu it is! However my processor wouldn't bottleneck the video card right?

And what 23 inch monitor would you guys recommended? I'm already set on getting a new monitor really soon. I hear dell is pretty good?

Dell definitely makes some good stuff monitor-wise. Look for an IPS panel for better quality (but more expensive as well).

Anandtech just did a giant article on CPUs vs GPUs in gaming...an OCed 955 should still be fine for 1 GPU and 1080P gaming, but it's going to start showing it's age.
