8800 GTS 320MB help me before I throw it out the window!

OK just got my 8800 GTS 320MB and it is being a pain in my @$$. I uninstalled the previous nVidia display drivers and ran driver cleaner with reboots in between. I then installed the 97.92 drivers (Win XP Pro). First off everything is grainy at native res and no scaling enabled. So for S&G's I run 3DMark05... score 14000 (yes exactly 14000, my 7800 GT SLi did 13000 and some change). Now I have pulled out my chipset drivers and vid drivers in safe mode via an uninstall and a run of driver cleaner. If there is anything I am missing please LMK as I am getting very . Thanks!

This is gonna sound stupid but, is it plugged in ? Because mine will boot not plugged in but it wont work properly at all. I tried it just for kicks. A power problem maybe?

There is noway 7800's in SLI would come close to that card. Maybe its just a bad card?

I would run 3dmark, but it would probably run in low power 3d mode. dont you need the 100 series drivers for 8800's?

100.xx series is for vista for now.

do a fresh windows install... no matter how "refined" winxp sp2 is, its still advisable to reformat once you change mobo or vidcard

You could try checking if the pci express link is set to 16x. Cpuz should show it, I think motherboard tab.

Also remove/reinstall driver.

It is an EVGA.

Link width is 16X on my PCI-E slot and I have the NF4 X16 chip.

It is in the top slot.




Here is something strange:

3DMark05 (default settings):
7800GT SLI: ~13,000
8800 GTS: ~14,000
8800 GTS @ 625/1015: ~ 14,500

3DMark05 (1680x1050, 8xAA 16xAF):
8800 GTS: ~ 10,000

3DMark06 (default settings):
7800GT SLI: ~7,000
8800 GTS @ 625/1015: ~ 9,800

Call of Duty 2, F.E.A.R.:

THE 8800 GETS LESS FPS THAN MY 7800 GT SLI BY A LOT. I AM TALKIN 20 TO 40 FRAMES LESS @ THE SAME SETTINGS!!!

I am really getting ticked off at this card!!!

Note: Fixed the 2D graineyness!!!(SP? LOL) Needed to adjust the display timings!

Am I wrong in assuming an 8800 GTS 320MB @ stock should smoke my 7800 GT SLI? I really hope this was not a $300 mistake.
