Hey there,

I currently have a 2600+xp (166fsb) barton with 1.5 gigs of generic pc3200 ram. (3X 512)

I just want to ask, If i am going to overclock this system to 200fsb+, should i keep 1500 megs of ram or take one of the sticks out and run only 1gig in slots 1 and 3 ??

Any help would be great :)

i'm assuming you mean the NF7

most people get higher fsb running single channel ( slots 1 and 3), so yes, that may help. in my case, i found a nice BIOS, and am running 2GB dual channel @245. it totally depends on the system. for me, i wouldn't give up dual channel for a little bit more fsb.

The best thing you could do is replace a 512mb stick with a 1gb stick. Then you would be running in dual channel with 2GB of ram. :attn: I have seen 1GB CAS 2.5 sticks at newegg for about $75-$85.

But if this is not an option, run some benchmarks in Sandra. Once with the 1.5gigs (all 3 sticks) in single channel and once with 1gig (just 2 sticks) in dual channel. My guess is the dual channel is more beneficial than the extra ram. What FSB are you running now?

@jiggamanjb > got any links to that bios your running? All the good bios repositories are drying up.

166 fsb :-0

Ill try the sandra tests like you said within the next few days

Thanks :)

I just got sandra 2007 , and i kinda dont really know what im doing :-0
What should i be clicking on/testing/comparing

im lost :(

click on the benchmark tab

then click on the memory benchmark
do this with the dual channel and without at different fsb. whichever is better, use :)

you should also be using Prime95 to see where you are stable if your aren't already.

what voltages are you using for everything and what are your temps?

I just tried some new BIOS' just for the heck of it, and the TaiPan CPC off D27 was by far the best out of all of 'em. Just letting you guys know.
