SOLVED changing from dual core to quad core cpu. need advice

Aha! Now, we're getting somewhere! The values I circled off to the right are the current voltage values, what they are after you just made the change. You can see that the CPU voltage is no longer 1.475. So, I want you to leave the CPU voltage where it is now but bump the CPU NB voltage from 1.175 to 1.225. Save the changes in bios, reboot and run Prime95 blend again. Let's see how it does now. I'm hoping it will run longer than it has. Monitor temps with HWmonitor as you are doing Prime. Report back with pics of Prime95 and HWmonitor after the test.

so , does that possibly mean, that at 1.475 it will be topped out?

Doubt it, mine tops at 1.60. Probably just means it isnt showing it right for whatever reason. Now that you're changing the values like trents suggested, just pay attention to the new value.

Oops, forgot the attachment. Put the CPU NB up to 1.225 (two more + keystrokes) and leave the CPU voltage at 1.35 for now. Save the changes. Reboot and rerun Prime95 and lets see if it does better. Report back with pics of HWMonitor and Prime95. Always monitor core temps when you are Priming.

I'd continue to run it for somewhere around 2 hours before changing anything else. It's doing better so that is good.

i fell asleep before 2 hours were up. everything was fine according to wife. she didnt take pics ,but did say it was running after 2 hours with no failures

Did it fail at some point after two hours or did you or your wife manually stop the test?

she man stopped it. here are some pics from today after raising it up again for 2 hour test.

Two cores failed in less than 1 hr. Give the CPU voltage another bump to 1.375 and the CPU NB to 1.25 volts and retest. Also, give the memory voltage a bump from 1.8 to 1.85. You are close to being stable. At least the machine didn't reset.

ok. settings have been changed. mem went to 1.9 instead of 1.85. also, there is place to change mem freq. to 1066, is that a possibility?do i run this test for 2 hours also?

No, don't change the memory to 1066. Very few DDR2 sticks and AM2+ boards will actually do memory that fast in real life. I'm not real comfortable with the memory at 1.9 volts. Try it for two hours but if its unstable, put the memory back to 1.8 volts.

ok. there is no 1.85, its either 1.8 or 1.9.we are at 1 hour, with no faults.am i to assume, that once we are stable with the 4 cores, then we switch it to 6 cores and all should be fine?

ok . new test results.

As the above poster said, you failed on two cores. Did you notice that? You can't move on to new challenges until you get it stable where it is. Bump up your CPU voltage another small notch and also bump your CPUNB to 1.3 volts and put your memory voltage back to 1.8. Retest.

posting tests at failure time
