Hey everyone ! Been reading these forums for a long time and so far I found most answers I needed w/o having to post (Thank you all for those now that i did !) but now I found myself with a very frustrating problem that I couldnt solve no matter how much I tried asking my friend Google.

Altho I see most of you have changed sockets for a long time now, Im hoping there are still a few of you around with 775 knowledge as I have recently switched from my old DDR2 MSI P43 NEO-F to a what seemed to be a sweet deal DDR3 DFI Lanparty DK P45-T3RSB but what proved to be a sleep stealer

Im at best a noobie OC'er, playing mostly with the FSB, multiplier and DRAM ratio and almost never messing with voltages.Even so I managed to get my E8400 to around 3.4 Ghz stable and 3.6 unstable on stock cooling on my old MSI P43 NEO-F.

When I grabbed the DFI with my new Scythe Katana III I was hoping for atleast the same performances but this board is beeing a nightmare to OC. So far I figure the problem must be with the Mobo since I cant get it to boot above 350 even with CPU set x 6 and ram set at 333->1066.

Im not one to use OC 24/7 , I just like to do some tests to see what my comp can do but even so, I really hope its not something wrong with the Mobo and its just me beeing a noob or missing something.

Soooooo please throw down any input (E8400 E0 on DFI LanParty DK P45-T3RSB PLUS with 2x4GB Corsair CL9 @ 1333Mhz but if there is anyother info needed Ill gladly provide it) and let me know what tests or settings can I do to get my show on the road !

At 350MHz and above try bumping the VTT to ~1.20-1.25V, the NB Core voltage to ~1.30V, and change the NB strap from 333 to the looser 400. So at a FSB of 350MHz on the 400 strap, select a DRAM frequency / Target DRAM speed of DDR3-1165 = a DRAM / System Memory multiplier of x3.33

Ok, first of all, thanks a ton for taking your time to try and help me out.

Second, before I start working on it, what exactly do you mean by "changing FSB strap from 333 to 400" ? Cause if you mean changing the jumper physicaly on the mobo, I cannot find how to do it, manual only has instructions for 800/1066/1333/auto (auto wont boot even on fail safe defaults - no clue why - so its set to 1333) not for 1600 (wich would be the 400 FSB strap) altho in the specs it is said that the mobo can do 1600 stock and 1800 OC'ed.

The Target DRAM speed setting should have an option for 400/1333 (= 3.33 DRAM mult.), so at a FSB of 350; 350MHz x 3.33 = DDR3-1165.

Tried what u said moving it to 360, no go.No boot, debug display shows the allmighty C1. Tried even with 400/1066. Somehow I dont think the ram is the problem, and Im sure the CPU isnt the problem either (got it to boot and load windows on my old MSI P43 NEO-F on 400x9, its something with the MB.

Should I change increments ? So far I used 340/345/350/355/360 etc. Does it even matter ? Maybe there is a friendlier formula for upping the FSB, something like 357 or 362, i dont know....

The C1 debug code is RAM related, so I would first try loosening the CAS from 9 to 10. Without knowing the exact model of RAM you have, and assuming timings of 9-9-9-24, change to 10-9-9-24 at the modules rated voltage. This on the 333 strap, so change the DRAM speed back to 333/1066 (5:8 FSB : DRAM ratio) at a FSB of 350MHz = Target DRAM speed of DDR3-1120. Leave all other overclocking related settings on Auto.

Exact ram modules are : CMX8GX3M2A1333C9
Mobo sets them on auto at 333/1333 on 8-8-8-20 (on 350 they get around 1402 IIRC) on 1.50V
Tried putting it on 9-9-9-24 and 10-10-10-27 at 333/1333 and 333/1066 on 1.50V and 1.65V , no boot above 350 FSB .
Reason I played with memory so much is cause I tried to loose it as much as I could since I am primarily interested in CPU OC, not ram (on my setup there isnt much of a difference between 1333 and 1600 anyway from what I read).

System BIOS Date 03/20/09 (wich would me its the latest right?)

Also found this:

Award BIOS Message (DK45D320) EVALUATION ROM - NOT FOR SALE

Wich is kinda spooking me out

EDIT: For future notice (as I considered it with the old one) I really doubt its the PSU failing, I got brand new Mushkin Volta 500W, a few days ago.

EDIT2: Took turns with both memory modules in all 4 memory slots, same deal with another set of brand new CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 that I thought to be defective and the cause of the FSB wall and had exchaned for the ones I have now

"Evaluation ROM" may mean it's a beta BIOS. I would re-flash it w/ the latest official ROM from the link I posted.

Gonna try, wish me luck (hope I dont end it all together) :D

Tried (with EZ Flash 1), wont even let me save it, i get this:

Error ocurred:
BIOS does not support AFU

EDIT: Looked in BIOS and I cannot find a protect mode setting for flashing also looked at the MB and cannot find a flash protect jumper on it.

EDIT2: I cannot find a EZ Flash 2 download location to save my life, please help if you can (Maybe I get the AFU error cause 1. its a too old version of EZ Flash)

EDIT3: Gonna try to do it with this method altho its said to be for Vista and I have Win7. Hope it will work.

EDIT4: Sucessfuly flashed BIOS - Award BIOS Message (DK45D527) EVALUATION ROM - NOT FOR SALE - latest BIOS I could find (newer than the one you linked to) will try some OC now, see how it goes and get back here with the results.

EDIT5: After beeing very dissapointed that I didnt get any improvements, I read somewhere that some mobos have FSB gaps ! Meaning that altho they might not boot at say 350 they could boot at 450. So I tried booting at 410mhz FSB and low and behold system booted and started to load windows. When I was close to Nirvana, blue screen. Blue screen on all and everything I tried, including 400/1066 400/1333 333/800 333/1066 9-9-9-24 (new BIOS wont let me go above 9) and CPU multi on 6/7/8. Upped VTT to 1.25 and NB to 1.30 ram to 1.65. BUT system boots (up to said blue screen on both x32 and x64 win7) from 401Mhz to 430Mhz FSB and will not boot below 400Mhz.

Having this in mind, if there are any more hints you could give, Im eager to suck it in :) Also BIG thanks redduc for trying to help, there arent many ppl that would go out of their way like you do !

EDIT6: More tests.Long story short:
With increased CPU VTT NB voltages and DRAM/FSB ratio ALWAYS lower than module specs (1000-1300Mhz) ->
-355-378 no boot
-379-380 boot, entered windows, blue screen in windows
-380-430 boot, blue screen on loading windows

Went back to everything on auto and FSB 350
-CPU 3150Mhz
-Ram 1402Mhz on 8-8-8-20

Waiting on new advices :)

Updates

Read some of your old posts and found one where u poste your DK Lanparty BIOS and altho it was a different model I noticed you had GTLs lower and Droop disabled, so I tried that and managed to boot at 400Mhz FSB - 3,6Ghz/1333Mhz.
It can run Orthos but fails fast in Prime95, will posts screens of my settings below so in case u can help me make it stable please dont hold back :)

3600 stable !

Managed to get stable on 3600:

With these settings:

Will now try to get up do 3800Mhz :D

with stock cooling 3.6 is all you want to run with that you should just be hitting 70c+ depending on your vcore, my e8400 did it on stock volts so you might wanna check temps. for 20 bucks you can grab up a coolermaster hyper 212+ and pump well over 4ghz ;)

3800 seems stable

On same voltage settings as above I ran prime 95 about 20 min on 423 FSB (3800Mhz/1410Mhz at 9-9-9-24/2T)
My cooler is a Scythe Katana 3, wich from what I recall isnt much above a stock cooler. What are safe temps for a E8400 to run at 24/7 ? Cause I belive I got a little too high and I should stop now at 423 FSB (max 84 celsius)
This is what I got:

Capture.png

for c2d's i like to keep max temp at 70c some might say differently but thats my "safezone" you can try will less cpu vcore and see where that gets u

your pics are too small i cant read them :(

Ok so, went from 1.32V to 1.28V in BIOS (1.28V to 1.25V in Everest) and max temp is now peaking 82C but stands mostly below 80C running Prime95 and a BSG episode on KMPlayer for good measure :) When its over Ill try to go lower see if it still stable !
Cores max are 68C and 74C.

EDIT: At 1.25V BIOS and 1.22V Everest temps are max 77C (65/60 on cores) running Prime 95 stable.Going to try 1.20V BIOS next :D Oh noticed chipset is peaking at 52C is that too high or normal for 1.37NB V ?
EDIT2: At 1.20V BIOS and 1.17V Everest temps are max 73C (65/60 on cores) running Prime 95 stable.Going to try 1.17V BIOS next :D

sounds good to me :) idealy just find the lowest vcore its stable with so if you can go lower thats good! but if not them temps seem fine :D
