Hello Overclockers-Community! ;)

I´m struggling for weeks to get my RAM stable :bang head I would appreciate any help from a expert who can guide me to set my timings right!

Here are some Screenshots from my BIOS-Settings and RAM Thaiphoon.

When im playing Games i constantly get some Stuttering, i tried to change timings, speed etc.. Sometimes it get´s better but i cant get it stable and smooth..
So thanks for every input from you guys! All the best from Germany <3

Looks like the bios version is current. How did you get the settings? Did you just use XMP or manually enter them?

What do you mean by stable? If unstable, I'd expect crashes, BSOD or similar. Is the CPU overclocked? You seem to show 4.8 GHz there, and stock turbo only goes to 4.7.

Just check things one at a time. Remove CPU overclock if any. Set ram speed to basic e.g. 2133 when XMP off. Does that work? Then turn on XMP (decline any multi-core enhancement that may be offered), does that work?

Host all your images here so they won't disappear when not clicked on. :)

What games? Settings? Gpu?

As mack said, typical ram instability isn't stuttering...

Use xmp profile and leave the timings alone.

I manually tightened the xmp profile timings from 16-18-38 2n just 2 increments each time down to the settings you see now. the cpu is on 4,8ghz stable, correct.. okay i will try to disable multicore enhancement. i already did stock settings on the ram, didnt helped.
Crossing fingers that its "only" the cpu oc..

Didnt helped tho. made it worse and the whole game feels shaky :D

On Fortnite and PUBG, GTX 1080 ti 11gb, stock settings

To recap, you tried undoing the CPU OC and ram set to basic speeds, and still have the problem? I think you can probably rule out the hardware settings and look elsewhere.

Yeah, it remains, but to come back to the RAM, i have a couple questions:
The io-offset -> i can put it low to 13 and up to 22, 23 wont post. some overclockers have that on 25, some say the lower the better the latency. So what´s better now?^^
And i would like to get my ram latency down under 40, it feels better ingame the faster my latency got when i tried different timings.

I learned a lot about the main /secondary latency, but still no idea about the third timing/what i can or should lower.

aaaand, thats the last one :D -> the refresh cycle time and DRAM Refresh Interval, should i leave it on stock or can i lower it /enhance the Refresh interval to (i heard max 65000) Since this gave me a lot of boost in terms of read/write + latency?

Thanks for your time guys!

Are your games installed on an SSD or HDD? When the 'stuttering' happens, is there HDD activity?

Otherwise, If you did what mack says, I agree with his sentiment about it not being hardware. Those games can run on a potato and not stutter.

You are digging down to the minutia here on RAM when we aren't sure that is even the issue. Changing all these timings is really not worth the time and the hassle. Set it to XMP and go from there.

okay i´ll try. Im just curious what i can set for the trfc + refresh interval and the io-offset.

Yes, all the games are on my SSD which is working fine, tested it already.

Thanks for all the input guys :)

I guess what I am saying is, at default (or XMP) settings, one shouldn't be experiencing any stuttering in games. So adjusting the timings and going down that hole isn't going to yield much, if anything considering it should be working fine at JEDEC/2133 or 3200 MHz.

Again though, are the games installed on an SSD or HDD? Is the stuttering constant or stutter spikes here and there? I get an occasional 'hitch' in Fortnite, but I think their latest patch may have resolved that for me.

If there's in game problems, what resolution is the display? G-Sync? Drivers? There are so many places to start before suspecting the TridentZ has a problem with XMP. Is TRIM on? Internet connection? I would even run sfc /scannow before I blamed the memory.

I used the latest nvidia driver, and driver 385.69, which is a little bit more smooth than the latest.
No G-Sync, V-Sync. Got a 100MBit Internet connection. Yeah but i feel a big difference in the Stuttering and overall "smoothness" on the desktop when changing timings on the RAM..
I reinstalled my nvidia Driver, reinstalling the game for the 5th time right now.

TRIM is on :)

Maybe i try to use only 1 Ramstick or swap the slots, but they are already on slot 2 and 4 how they suppose to sit...

Have you had a look with task manger to see what applications are running in the background also scanned the PC for virus?

I'm not familiar with V-Sync. Is that something that can be turned off in the monitor? Because it won't work with a 1080 Ti. Again, I have no idea if there would be a conflict, but I mention in the hope someone will enlighten me. :D

Haha sleep well @Alaric ^^
Sooo a little update:

I took one ram out, changed slots blahblah, that wasnt the problem, so i took out my graphics card to see if all was connected, also everything fine, unplugged my sound card for now, and took the bios battery out, clear cmos and restarted.

Then the bios was at stock and all @ auto, then magically it was pretty smooth ingame, just the aida latency sucked.. :D So i only put up the ram speed, turned on xmp tried different timings, and the stutter came back...
So now im on 2800mhz 15-15-36 2t (stock timings @2133mhz)- i set voltage to 1.35 just to be stable and put my cpu back to 4,8ghz with 4,5 cache.

If it stays how it is now, im happy! But god knows whats the problem for the stuttering.. maybe this older bios version works better ? Im confused :D

@wingman99 yeah, only the processes i need are running like mouse driver, sound card panel etc. And i have no Virus, scanned couple times with avast :)

XMP should just work out of the gate without stuttering. Enable XMP and do not change anything else.

I did, it stuttered.. :( and felt delayed ingame

btw, what is better a lower io offset or a higher io offset? cause on 2800mhz i can get it to 26/26 and the latency is on 1 .

A little Update: I got it stable with proper rtl / io offset training, im now at 3200 mhz 14-14-32 1t / trying 14-14-28 2t now.
Just a little tricky with the RTL´s
