Hello all,

I am getting ready to upgrade my i7-920 to Haswell and I need some help with RAM.

The new rig will be an i5-4670k and Maximus Hero MB. I know that 1.5v RAM is recommended but I am wondering if I should keep my old ram or get new.

Current ram is below I have 3x2gb

I ordered

Would I be better off to use current ram in 2x2gb for dual channel, 3x2gb to get 6gb and no dual channel, or the newer gskill ones?

Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't get the Hero...it'd oddly priced. The Gene (AFAIK) is a better board, but both are way overkill unless you're using subambient cooling.

On the topic of RAM, if you don't need more than 4GB of RAM, then use what you have. Otherwise, I'd use what you bought.

I'm almost sure that you can use 6GB RAM on that board and it will run as dual channel. It's maybe weird but it's working.
