Hello, I'm a noob when it comes to building PCs but I know the basics. What I want to know is if this is a good $1,600 gaming PC?
CPU: AMD FX-8350 (OC'ing to 4.5-5GHz) - $199.99
CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X60 - $139.99
Motherboard: Asus SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 - $179.99
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws Z Series 16GB DDR3-2133 Memory - $92.99
Video card: EVGA GeForce GTX 670 2GB FTW Edition - $399.99
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 7200RPM - $59.46
SSD: Crucial V4 256GB - $163.17
Case: NZXT Tempest 410 Elite (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case - $$69.99
PSU: Corsair AX750 - $149.99
OS: Windows 7 Professional SP1 - $135.97
Thermal Compound: Arctic Cooling MX2 30g - $15.99
Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224BB - $17.98
Is this build good for playing games such as Crysis, Battlefield, Alan Wake, Metro 2033, etc?
Will any of these components be dated a year from now?
Will any of these components be cheaper a year from now?
Will this build be able to run the latest games and game from 1-4 years from now?
Any tips on building a PC or picking out parts for one?
Thanks in advanced! :D

I would go
CPU i5 3570k
GPU 7970
PSU you don't need 750w I would get a good 600w corsair one
don't need Thermal Compound: Arctic Cooling MX2 30g - $15.99
Mobo I would get asrock z77 extreme6
Ram I would get 1866 2x8gb
CPU cooler maybe a H100I or H80i

^ but get the swiftech h220 unit due out any day now; for the cpu cooler.
get 3gb or 4gb of vram if an option for $30-$50 more.
you can get some thermal compound, 1grm is more than enough (not 30g), mx2 or mx4 or pk-1/2/3.

Hey, welcome to OCF!

When trying to recommend a build to you, there's some information that's extremely helpful for us to know. If you could answer these few short questions, we'd be happy to help!

  • What are you planning to do with this compuer? Please be as specfic as possible.
  • What is your budget?
    1. Does this include a copy of Windows?
    2. Does this include peripheals (a keyboard, monitor, mouse, speakers, etc.)?
  • Are you from the United States or a different country? Are you ordering from your own country or from across borders?
    1. Wherever you may be from, does the store that you are planning to order from have a website? It's okay if it isn't in English, we can manage.
    2. If you are from the United States, do you live nearby a Microcenter?
  • Do you have any specific requests with the build?
    1. Do you plan on overclocking? If yes, do you have a specific goal in mind?
    2. Would you prefer the build to be particularly small?
    3. Would you prefer the build to be particularly quiet?
    4. In general, do you prefer this to be a computer that you can spend money on now and let it rest, or a box built for continuous upgrading?
    5. Do you ever plan on utilizing NVIDIA's SLI or AMD's CrossfireX technologies? These features, with a compatible motherboard, allow a user to link multiple identical graphic cards together for added performance. In real world terms, this lets you buy a second identical graphics card down the line as a relatively cheap and easy way to gain a fairly large boost in performance. However, this requires buying a SLI/CFX compatible motherboard and PSU now, which may result in slightly higher initial cost.

Once again, thank you in advance for taking the time to answer these, and I hope you enjoy your stay at OCF! :)

hmmm...

ok... 2 observations.

1) if you're going to spend 1600 on a pc, you better get a better GPU then a GTX 670 to justify the expense.
2) at 1600 you've invalidated the only real reason to go AMD... at that price you can get an i5 or i7 and get slightly better performance...

alright. now to your questions...

1) doubt anything but the GPU will be dated in a year (and then only in the sense a new gen of gpus will be out).
2) the gpu and probably the cpu will be cheaper...
3) mostly... though it depends on the graphics settings and resolutions. if you're just talking "High" settings at 1080p on a 60hz monitor... then yes. If you're expecting more... then maybe no.

here is a system, just for info purposes that costs a little less then your build and would game as well or better. Frankly... i could make it much cheaper and come close to or beat that system, but i figured i'd keep the system components close to what you've chosen. The HDs of course would be set up in RAID 0.

oh yeah... and you'll get crisis 3 + bioshock with that gpu.

and it would be just as easy to make a cheaper... better... system with an intel. really once you go over 1000, the arguments for taking an AMD CPU over an Intel get really thin.
