For future upgrades I would go in this order:

1)SSD

2)CPU heatsink upgrade+ extra case fans
(and then overclock the CPU)

3)GPU upgrade (280X/290 for example)

FWIW, Im "happy" with my seriously overclocked AMD, but I still wish I went Intel...
 
Looking at the build I suggested, you could squeeze in a GTX 760 2GB instead of the 270 and get higher performance. It would still cap out under $1000.
