Hey OCF.

I have a problem and hopefully one of you guys can shed some light on it.

I bought a PC (specs to follow) in December 2014. 2 months later whilst playing CS:GO the rig powered down unexpectedly. Oh no. When I tried to turn the pc back on the power button wouldn't respond. I waited another 10 seconds or so and the power button worked and the pc powered back up.

After the above event occurred the first time it started happening regularly. Whilst playing CPU and GPU intensive games for an hour or so the PC would power down unexpectedly - Its overheating I can hear you say. Nope - I checked all temps possible and nothing was abnormal.

I sent the PC away to a specialist who told me the PSU had failed and needed replacing. I replaced it with an identical one Corsair VS450

Replacing the PSU fixed the problem unil yesterday when it started happening again.

Any ideas? All advise is much appreciated.

4.00 gigahertz AMD FX-8350 Eight-Core - GTX 760 Phantom 4GB - Corsair VS450 PSU - 2 x 4gb Kingston Hyper X Blu - Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 AMD Socket AM3+ - Corsair Carbide 200r case

If I have missed any info which you will need please let me know.

Thanks in advance.
Sam

Thanks both. What damage or effects would the lack of power have on the other components? I want to get all the info before I slap the arse of the company who i bought the PC from.

I would not think that it would hurt them, but maybe it could cause data to become corrupt if your cpu/memory/hdd isnt functioning properly.

Id like a copy of the minutes in that exchange

I chuckle at there stultifying lack of insight in technology. ^_^

have fun

There is another possible reason why the rig is shutting down. These Fx 8 series processors require stout motherboards in order to run well. The Asus M5A97 LE is not a really good choice for it, due to it's paltry VRM section 4+2 and lack of heatsinks on it. I would try blowing a fan on the VRM section while you are doing tasks that would normally have the PC shut down, to see if the problem persists. It is a good possibility that the VRM section is overheating and causing the system to shut down.
I highlighted the section where you can put a fan on to see.

It's a decent psu (not great by any means, but decent), I lean towards motherboard heat issues, but it could go either way.
