I'm in an engineering class and need to upgrade the old system, going to start from new and no recycling this time. I will be running and rendering with Ansys, Solidworks and 3D cad. All of it will be 2018 version. I want tons of RAM and at least 2GB GPU not really wanting liquid cooled and not sure about overclocking but I guess it's an option but then I for sure will get into the cooling issue (Florida, never cool here). Money is an issue as with any student, but I know it's going to be costly and expect sticker shock. Thing is I've been out of the tech end of systems for a few years, thank the military, and have no idea what is what anymore. Any chance someone wants to give me a recipes or two in the under 1500 range? Thanks.

There, that should do for starters to fit within your budget. This does not include an optical drive, keyboard and mouse which I assume you can use from your current system.

Questions: Do you need a work station class video card to do what you want to do? How large do you need the monitor to be and do you need multiple monitors?

Well, let's see. According to this, https://www.ozeninc.com/ansys-system-hardware-requirements/ you would need more storage. So scrap the 1 TB SSD and go with this: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178994

https://help.solidworks.com/2018/English/SolidWorks/install_guide/c_viz_prereqs_system_reqs.htm

And you do need a workstation video card. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAE8D88N6380

Doesn't sound like you need a special gsync monitor for the nvidia worksation card so you can save money there.

I think you will be hard pressed to do this for under $2000. The applications have some requirements that make it expensive.

Okay, I made some changes and it came out to $1469 (pre tax, rounded off to nearest dollar).

There are some compromises, particularly with regard to the GPU, amount of RAM and the display (not 4k) but it at least meets or exceeds the minimum system requirements of your applications.

Wow, thank you trents, seriously looking into this. thanks again for your time and reversions.
