Hi all. I am building my first ever computer from scratch. I know some stuff about computers plus I have seen a lot of video on YouTube about builds and I think I am ready. Now, this will contradict this site, but just an FYI, I will not be OC this machine what so ever since I don't think I need it.

Right now I had an i7 2600K, 16gb ram, 2x 1gb crossfire GFX card and a 750W power supply. Don't really remember my MOBO :/. Anyways, I sold it on eBay for $655 best anyone offered so whatever. Now, I want to make a new one with something more new.

What I really need help is the MOBO. I seem to have all other parts already set like my processor I decided to go with i7-4770K (I hope since I have not found any good deals online).

I know the new Z97 came out this week and I wanted to maybe get one. I am a fan of asus and wanted the Sabertooth Z97. Unfortunately they are a bit out of my price range and I want to see if someone can recommend me something similar to it ? :) I don't care for dual LAN or anything extra because I only use my computer to download and see TV shows streaming and remuxing .mkv files. I saw MSI and ASRock has some at a lot cheaper like I want around $150 but since I am not a computer genius I want to see if someone here can help me. If it matters, I am looking at a 3gb video card or so (maybe 2gb I don't play games so ")

Hope someone can help me.

Thanks.

Yeah I guess you are both right. But even with my old build it was not enough for the stuff I did so I am sure it need what I need :/. I guess I can just get any Z97 then without issues of being powerful enough.

I will take into consideration maybe that box looking thing lol have to take a. After look at it :)

If you don't like the Brix you may want to consider a mITX and a vinilla Hassy.

As Earthdog stated, no need for a card for the use you are describing

Build an ITX system in an EVGA Hardron or a Corsair 250D is my advice. You absolutely do not need a GPU if you do not game, do advanced graphic or editing work, etc. Use the integrated GPU on die with the modern Intel chips.

Honestly, apart from vastly improved integrated GPU specs, the Haswell 4770K is not really that much faster than the Sandybridge 2600K that you had. If you are saying your old CPU was not fast enough you will definitely want to overclock the new Haswell cpu you get for improved performance. You can achieve this by getting something like a Maximus Impact ITX board and a small tower cooler. Regardless, you don't need to go big and you don't need to go expensive. Take the money you would have spent on a GPU and get a big fast SSD. Having said that if you want maximum overclocks look into a mid tower case and a large air cooler or an AIO closed loop liquid cooler with a 120mm radiator. Without overclocking you won't notice improved speed out of a 4770K.

About the only platform improvements you're going to see are USB 3 integrated into the PCH, better VRM design, all SATA 3 no SATA 2... and that's about it. You really should have just overclocked your 2600K. I'd be willing to bet any 'slowness' in your old system was due to running slow hard drives and no ssd.

I will be going to take a look at these and get back to you who have helped me here.... Thanks. I wish I could click the THANKS button but I don't see it anywhere :(..

Regardless,, thanks :)

@EarthDog / Witchdoctor

TY so much for all the help and info.

If I decide to just go with the small box looking thing (what is it called, mini-PC?) would this be something good?

@Theocnoob

Thanks for all the info. I appreciate it. Btw, I had a 300GB SSD :)

If I was going for an ITX system as you stated, it would be with one of these motherboards?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128721

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132123

I saw the EVGA Air looks kinda cool and small plus it can be water cooled according to what I have read and that is something I want due to where I live it is always hot and my air is not always on due to living accommodations.

I also saw the "Maximus Impact ITX board" seemed to have been from ASUS, it was $224. Now it probably wont be that bad since I am saving money on the GPU but I just want to make sure that is what you had in mind :)

"Use the integrated GPU on die with the modern Intel chips." <-- not sure what that means, care to explain a bit more to me?

The Corsair 250D looks freaking awesome as well, now I just don't know :(. I prefer to build it myself so maybe this would work out the best for me since I can add a nice radiator on it :)

Honestly, what would you recommend in parts with the Maximus motherboard and 16GB ram?

If I ask a lot I am sorry I just want to make this happen asap as I am without a computer ATM :(

PS. Would building my own with case and water cooler be better or worse than the pre-build Mini PC mentioned here?

Either of those would be good. That is what Witchdoctor suggested...

If you went ITX, yes, those are ITX boards.

You should not spend your money on the Maximus impact. The other ITX boards are PLENTY.

AS far as the integrated GPU, it means just that. THere is a GPU in the CPU. Since you don't play games, you can use it instead of buying a discrete card.

I wouldn't recommend the Maximus or 16gb of ram for what you do. 8GB is plenty.

I also wouldn't recommend water either.... simply no need for your uses.

OK so now I am set down to 3 cases. Now, out of the 3, I think 2 are better and I just want to know some help and info fromyou guys :)

1. EVGA Hydro : http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=110-MW-1002-K1 ; (I think this one though is for custom loop water coolers and I think I just want to add a closed loop stock less hassle and from what I have read might be the same since I am not going to get a dedicated video card; right now anyways)

2. Corsais 250D : http://www.corsair.com/en-us/obsidian-series-250d-mini-itx-pc-case ; (Looks awesome, and it can maybe have the 6 USB 3.0 that I need; this seems to be my favorite till I saw the 3rd )

3. Bitfenix Prodigy : http://www.bitfenix.com/global/en/products/chassis/prodigy/ ; (Looks great, small, also can have the closed loop i prefer and 6 USB 3.0. I like it. )

Issues is I can decide from the last 2 really, cause the EVGA i think its awesome but probably not what I need.

I am open to suggestions if anyone would be so kind to help me out :)

Cases are your choice my man... especially for your uses. You are not a power user so airflow really isn't a huge factor. If it fits your needs, budget, and looks good... its a win.

TY so much. The reason I want to go water and at least 16GB ram is due to the fact that this is what I was using before:

VjrcFuI.jpg.png

And it was just not enough. I dont game but like mentioned I do REMUX 45GB .MKV files. I also RIP full Blu-Ray 3D movies so what I had before always had some kind of issue. Either the RAM would go off the charts, or it would get to HOT (111-118F, I used F not C so I don't know what is acceptable or not, but while the PC was idle it would be around 89-98F)

I got ride of it because since it was OLD, got it in 2011, I wanted something new with better parts. I am in love with these small things, and I really want tospend the $600 i got for it and maybe a bit more to build something small and hopefully better? lol

Thanks again for all the INFO and advice.

lol, so I probably sold an awesome computer that cost me $1500 without taxes just cause I am noob :(. Oh well. Guess I will go with the 250D. :) seems like it has the most space plus I can use my own power supply.

Ill get back here when I have the next part set.. Maybe some pictures :)

PS. really wish I can find the damn THANKS button, I just don't see to have it :(

If I were in the market for a PC to meet the requirements you out line I might look at this config

Case = $ 90.00 shipped and will accommodate your AIO
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139033
Board = $ 139 + 6 shipped has wireless built in
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157504
Chip = $ 225.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116989
Stix = $ 160.00 big/fast may or may not help with your uses
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313325
Power = $ 129.99 / $ 19 off with this (EMCHRCM22) Overkill, but covers you if you ever go discrete GPU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151088
Reuse
AIO
SSD & HD
There are a lot of cheaper ways to do this, but I have been sick for a long time now

Total = $ 744.00 – code = $ 725.00

Sure some members here can steer you in a more economical direction.

best of luck with the build :)

TY so much :).

So I got these bought already:

Case: Corsair 250D http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139033

Ram: Team Extreme http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313325

MOBO: ASRock Z97E-ITX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157504

Now, I would like to get a bit of feedback on this to see what I can get best :)

The power supply I am sure is important, but since I am looking for a deal I found some that might be = to what I was recommended. As per Witchdoctor he suggested http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151088 . Its $129 and SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified. I found some on eBay and I want to know if I can get any of these or is WD suggestion the best.
I found these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/301164439479?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
http://www.ebay.com/itm/301164443857?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
http://www.ebay.com/itm/380895978124?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
http://www.ebay.com/itm/301184532514?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 (only one that says GOLD but looks kind of old lol)

The Chip recommended is an i5. I am dead set on an i7. I probably don't know what I am talking about but in my opinion it must be better than the i5. Is there any good i7, = or better than the one suggested? I just need to know so I can look for a better deal online.

Thanks for all the help :)

PS. What is a Reuse and AIO?

Reuse is a word. It means to use again. AIO is all in one. It refers to an all in one water cooling solution like a Corsair H100i.

All the power supplies you linked I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. You can get silver and gold cert 600W PSUs for $100 and less. Just look around on newegg. I don't know why you're hellbent on gold cert powersupplies though. A bronze or a silver, provided it is decent quality, will work. You'll never make up the difference between the cost of a bronze and a gold in power draw savings at the wall. Not drawing 200-250W like you're gonna be. And that's a grandiose estimate. It'll probably be lower than that.

There is only 1 i7 that's worth while (excluding 6 core parts) and that's the 4770K. If you wait a few weeks the 4790K will be out. That's the Devil's Canyon part (new).

Buy a Corsair, Seasonic, Superflower PSU. They all make good stuff.

Honetly, I always think something is better than something else when probably it is not but its just my thinking :(....

Btw, I will just get the one stated above, just wanted to see were I can save and curt some corners. :)

I want to go with this Corsair H100i, it is what I had on my other build http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7413643 this is fine right? I have been reading and it will fit in the case perfect.

PS. I was not sure what context reuse and AIO was being used, I knew what both meant though, lol, :)

PPS. How would these match up to the one suggested above? They seem to be the same to me :/
