AMD Lowers A-Series APU Pricing

In an effort to offer mainstream component system builders, upgraders, and DIY enthusiasts an opportunity to grab a new A-Series APU at a more attractive price, AMD has announced a pretty hefty price reduction. It could be the perfect time to grab a 12 compute core (4 CPU + 8 GPU) A-Series APU with HSA features (hUMA/hQ), full hardware support for DirectX 11.2, close to the metal API support (AMD Mantle), AMD TrueAudio, OpenCL 1.2, and OpenGL 4.4. Future plans include support for DX12, OpenCL 2.0, and Project FreeSync.

The new pricing is permanent and should be in effect shortly, if not already in place at some eTailers.

Through the end of October, purchasers of AMD A10 APUs may select from one of three game titles – Murdered, Thief, or Sniper Elite 3 using the AMD rewards key code inside the product box. Alternatively, the key code may be redeemed to purchase Corel Aftershot Pro 2 for only $5, a savings of between $55-$75 from the retail price. This promotion applies to the following AMD A10 APUs:

  • AMD A10-7850K APU
  • AMD A10-7800 APU
  • AMD A10-7700K APU
  • AMD A10-6800K APU
  • AMD A10-6790K APU

Previous generation APU price reductions are already in place as well.

AMD Announces A10-6790K APU Release

AMD held a brief press conference Monday morning to announce availability of the new A10-6790K Richland APU. The A10-6790K APU comes in at 4.1 GHz base clock and 4.3 Ghz max turbo core. The only difference specifications wise from the A10-6800K is a 100 MHz drop in core speed and support for 1866 MHz memory versus 2133 MHz its bigger brother offers. On the graphics end, the A10-6790K offers the same HD 8670D iGPU as the flagship A10-6800K.

I'm not sure if it's not too late for them as Intel already has better options in nearly every price point.

The A10-7850 only dropped $10 at Newegg. To $159. Hardly the the $143 suggested retail price in the press release.

Still $200 for A10 7850 here in Canada ...... bit cheaper on the egg but not much.

Glad to see this. I've been trying to build a new Intel rig after years of having AMD but the cost is just out of hand for these Intel parts, so I'm leaning towards another AMD instead. Good to see AMD staying as a value option.

FYI: I just saw that Newegg has a $20 off coupon for the A10 6800K which brings it down to $119.
