CES 2016: GIGABYTE Unveils X150 Motherboards and Gaming Laptops

In our next installment from CES 2016, we visit with motherboard giant GIGABYTE. A plethora of motherboards, graphics cards, laptops, and peripherals were on display in GIGABYTE’s massive product showcase.

Motherboards

GIGABYTE had its full lineup on exhibit including X170, Z170, and X150 motherboards. The only new ones were workstation boards: X150-PLUS WS (ATX), X150M-PLUS WS (mATX), and X170-Extreme ECC. Both X150 motherboards offer 8-channel HD Audio with “high quality audio capacitors” and audio noise guard with LED trace path lighting. The larger X150-PLUS WS has some additional features, like M.2 PCIe Gen 3 x4 support, Intel GbE LAN with cFosSpeed, and SATA Express.

Graphics Cards

Although there were no brand new graphics cards to check out we did get confirmation that GIGABYTE plans to bring the XTREME GAMING line to the AMD side. The first card to get this treatment will likely be the R9 Fury. Also, we will likely be reviewing the GTX 980Ti XTREME GAMING in a few weeks time, so stay tuned for that. The GTX 970 EXTREME GAMING we reviewed was a monster!

Gaming Laptops

GIGABYTE showed off their new Skylake laptops at CES. The highlight was the P57 laptop with a 17.3″ HD display, GTX 970M, M.2 PCIe Gen3 x4, and USB 3.1 Type-C connectivity. Smaller screen sizes with similar high-performance graphics solutions are also available. There is even a version with 4K UHD display! Detailed specifications and more information is available on GIGABYTE’s website.

New Laptops for Gamers from AORUS

We also checked out GIGABYTE’s hardcore gaming arm, called AORUS. There were several laptops and gaming peripherals on display. The star of the show was definitely the AORUS X5 v5 and X7, which both captured coveted CES Innovation Awards. The X5 v5 sports dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M in SLI with G-SYNC, while the X5S v5 features a GTX 980M. Not to be outdone, the 17.3″ monstrosity X7 laptop has dual GTX 970M graphics. All of the aforementioned models offer an optional hardware live stream engine, perfect for casting your gaming session to the world.

In February, AORUS will offer limited quantities of the x3, x5, x7 laptops with an authentic camouflage pattern. The camouflage is applied using water transfer technology, retaining the slick aluminum texture of the laptop and covering corners flawlessly.
