If science isn’t a big enough reason to fold, would a bit of friendly competition sound like fun to you?
Last month, you may remember how we appealed to Overclockers.com readers to use idle CPU cycles going to waste and help a valuable scientific project which has already published results that may possibly lead to advances in cancer research.
If that isn’t enough to get you involved, then check out the Folding@Home statistics here. See Overclockers.com. Yeah, they are currently in third place but poised to take second in the near future. With a few more members, just like you, we can close the gap quicker and set our sights on first place.
How does it all work? All you need to do is download the client from http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html, choose a username, and enter 32 as the team.
Then sit back and watch it quietly soak up unused CPU cycles and do some good for humanity. The work units you download are all weighted depending on how complicated they are. After they get returned to Stanford, they add the points total on to your personal statistics, and onto the team total. Simple. And it does this all itself.
We are close, and getting closer. If you want to be part of one of the best Folding@Home teams around, then we’d be glad to have you.
