I've noticed the hotspot temp on my 7900 XTX MBA creep up into the questionable range and would appreciate some perspective on if pursing a RMA is worth it. The card technically hasn't hit the 110c throttle point yet, so I'm unsure if AMD will be willing to RMA till then.

When running pure raster the hotspot seems to top out around 86c. Ray tracing seems to push it into the mid-90s. Minecraft with shaders seems to push it the hardest, with the highest I've ever seen being 104c. Meanwhile the core never gets above 60c. My ambient temp is fairly cool at the moment, around 60f. This near 40c temp differential has begun to cause me some concern - the card was an early make, produced in December 2022. When the hotspot problems came to light I ran some benchmarks and didn't find the thermals on the card to be particularly worrying. However, the temp differential seems to have gotten larger over time.

I'd appreciate any advice regarding if pursuing a RMA is worth it. The card still has some headroom before the 110c throttle point on the hotspot, but a 40c differential between the core and the hotspot seems pretty massive to me. I'm currently running with an aggressive custom fan curve, +15% on the power slider, and undervolted to 1100mv. My case is a Lian Li Lancool 3 with tons of airflow - the GPU has 3 bottom mounted fans blowing air directly into it.

Late reply but lots of info on this now from re apply paste pads . Screw gpu bracket first then shroud back plate . And possible chamber problem on cooler to not enough water .
Seems re application of thermal paste does it most of the time

Yeah, that's about what I thought. I'm just hoping to avoid pulling apart a still-in-warranty GPU. I was wondering if anyone had experience with AMD RMAing a card with a large temp difference between the core and hotspot, speaking that I'm technically below the 110c throttle point.

I just got my 7900 xtx and not got the temps you talk about 40c difference is excesive . If you feel confident enough re paste it . Im not sure you could rma a card that works within spec not to sure sorry
Seems you have enough air flow .
Just to check can you lay case flat with side panel off to see temps purely to rule out restriction
My temps are below 60c but thats open bench

You can see temps there with low 60s for hot spot
