As far as I know (please tell me if I'm wrong) most digital thermometers use thermisters. The thermister varies resistance with temperature. By reading the resistance, the thermometer calculates the temperature.

If the above is correct, then couldn't one just add a bunch of thermisters to a single digital thermometer and have them switch selectable?
 
If you want very precise measurement, you need matched thermistors. Normal thermistors have fairly large tolerances, so at the same temp differnt thermistors may give you differnt readings. But for "a general idea" of the temp, this should work.
 
That's what I thought. So all I need to do is find out what type of thermistor the CompuNurse uses (ANYONE KNOW???) and buy a bunch...
