temp trouble

Seanie's Show im running your first lot of settings and im finding some problems with heat, also at 200 bclk im getting 4.2ghz is that correct? my temps are getting upto 92c before i bottle and stop the prime95 small fft test.

im running an ek wave 775 block which ive moddified to fit the 1366. the rest of the loop is as follows:

eheim 1250 pump
thermochill HE120.2
2x panaflo 120mm fans 7v modded
ek full cover block on 8800gts 512mb
120mm fan blowing over the mosfets, northbridge, and memory

psu corsair 750w hx
cpu i7 920 D0
ram 6gb gskill PI 1600 cl6, im using the xmp profile

i thought maybe my rad wasnt upto the job, but the gpu temp is around 46c when idle, with the cpu 100% load and 85c+. could it be the ek wave isnt upto the job?

i7 930, Corsair H50 Cooler, X58A-UD3R

My settings:
Running at 166x22=3660MHz as of now

Those settings have given me the coolest performance/stability, although not that cool (70C full load on prime). I'm satisfied with the 3.66 GHz speed (it's still a huge jump from the stock 2.80GHz), but is that load temp okay?

Also, I'm using this system as a 'Hackintosh' but I have Windows 7 installed on another drive for debugging like this. The Mac side functions fine at 4 GHz (200x20 with all auto settings), but the temps are just too high (mid 80s). But Windows 7 can't handle 4 GHz, within a minute or so of booting into the OS, it will give me the BSOD with some error.

I am running the same setup. Core i7 930 with a Corsair H50 Cooler running OSX 10.6, Win7 is just to get the OC done. I'm new to overclocking and I am unable to get anything stable past 3.36 GHz. Maybe my cooler needs to be reseated. I'm not using in AS5 just using the stock thermal sticker that came on the H50.

Hi guys, just signed up. I have the same board along with i7-930 and G.Skilll tri channel kit at 1600. I've never oc-ed before and new to this but I want to try a bit on my machine, because I think it can handle a bit oc-ing.
What I'm trying to achieve is oc my machine to 3.2, ram at 1600 (default). What I do won't be needing that much oc-ing.

I read all the posts and following seanie's advice and also the oc-ing i have in mind is similar to kunar's.

Can you guys please have a look at my settings and advice? I've written some notes on things I don't know and basically I'm not completely sure on any of the settings I'm planning to choose.

Thanks in advance guys.

Thanks for the reply.
MIAHALLEN says in his 3 Step Guide to Overclock Your Core guide that usually we can achieve stable performance at 1.3vcore. So maybe I should just set vcore to 1.275 + dvid 0.025 which in total would be 1.3. Am I correct?

@ delgee, set your loadline calabration to level 1 or level 2, it basically locks in your CPU voltage and stops it fluctuating whilst under load, also yes is the answer to your ram timings, they look fine set manually.

Thanks for the reply.
I'll apply the above settings and see what happens. Will let you guys know. :D

Guys, I have one more question.

My understanding is that RAM speed is BLCK x SPD.
So in my case its 160 x 8 = 1280.
But my ram spec is 1600 and I want it at 1600.
So do I have to increase the SPD value to 10 so it will be 160 x 10 = 1600?
Also I'm a bit confused because of that 2:6, 2:8, 2:10 ratios. when the ratio is 2:6 SPD is 3, when the ratio is 2:8 SPD value is 4 and so on? So in my case the ratio would be 2:20 so that SPD will be 10?

Can you guys please correct me.

Thanks.

Bios/OC

Ok, I'm new to the whole O/C and Bios settings in general. First setting the memory to their recommended maxes lights up the cpu and ddr Voltage warning leds to green, which i understand is slight... but are lights ok, or is it possible to run the ram at 1600 with no warning lights....?

My Settings for this board are as follows, give these a try but I would try for 200blk not 205blk to start with, dont leave any voltage on Auto, if you not manually adjusting it set it to normal, you will have to give some nb voltage manually though, this will be no good on normal]

Hey there all.

I've just got the following spec and have used the guides above yet using a CPU clock ratio at 20 rather than 21 to get it to a 4GHz. Is this the correct way to do this. Many thanks

CPU: Intel Core i7 930
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
RAM: Corsair XMS3 (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel

Hi All,

Thanks for the posts so far this is a great starting point for those kinda new to the X58 and i7s.

Setup is:
i7 930
X58A-UD3R
Sapphire HD 5850 Toxic Ed
Corsair 1000W HX-1000
Geil Evo Two PC3-12800 7-7-7-24 1600MHz 6GB (3x2 Tri)
Noctua NH-U12P
WD 150GB Raptors x2 + WD 1TB all SATA2
eSATA 1TB WD

I tried the following settings (based on Seanie's Show). It worked for about 30minutes of LinX with max temps of 79deg then BSOD (I was messing around in Chrome and notepad at the time but I guess its fine to have other things running at the same time as LinX?). The only other weird thing that was happening was that after power up (after saving the new settings) the MB lights would come on, drive spin up then it was like the power cut out a few times in a row (4 times each boot) then it would finally beep post and load windows. Not sure why it was doing this any ideas? It does not do that when I use my stock settings.

hi all, i read through all the thread.
curious for GA-X58A-UD3R what rev you guys using?
i intend to follow the setting but mine is rev 1.0 which is less power phase vpm.
rev 2.0 is 12 vpm.

Hi Guys,
Great thread! Im new here and new to OC'ing really.

Just ordered the GA-X58A-UD3R Rev. 2, a i7 930 and 12GB Corsair Dominator.

I would like to OC the CPU to something with noticeable performance increase but without generating too much heat idle and under load.

Would 4GHz be reasonable to aim for with a thermalright 120 extreme (1600rpm scythe fan attached)?

If so what's the easiest way to get here?

First of all I will set my memory timings manually to what they are rated at but after that im a little lost with the various OC methods.

Thanks so much for your help!

*update
Sorry forgot to add im running a Corsair HX850 PSU and a OCZ Vertex 120GB SSD if that makes any difference. If you guys need any more info just ask!
