How to Get My Girl to Get into FPS Games..

Oh, I WISH my wife was willing to game.
She finds almost all games to be a blatant waste of time and energy.
She's not rude or anything but asks the simple question; "what does it accomplish?"
A very practical question, an my retort is that "I find it relaxing"
Which is fine by her as long as I don't spend more time gaming than I do with her.
Which is also hard for me, as I'm only one 10-12 hours a day, and I have to work on my school work, and play with my kids, and spend time with her, and visit OCforurms, and sleep (i try to cut back on this one; egregious amounts of caffeine helps)

Indeed. Same here to some extent. She doesn't know why I get into them or can go 12+ hours playing one game with friends but she goes what ever keeps ya happy.

I nearly got her to play portal the other week though, so close... I will one day get her to play games. She use to play Sims but her laptop isn't up to snuff and well like she'll get a chance to play on my PC hahaha ya right. She has her books and that and I have my PC.

Good luck,
FPS gaming is different then Sims, you might have to try going the log way, Get her to try a fighting RPG so The Sims with Combat really, then IF she gets hooked into an RPG, you then try a Co op FPS with a story, Like Delta Force, then you can try strait out LAN FPS,

I for one love gaming, couldn't care less about FPS, I really Enjoyed HL back in University on Pre Bar nights to get warmed up for a night of drinkin, but I was mainly RTS/ SIM player. now I enjoy RPG's and RTS games, still don't fancy the FPS, though I keep buying them from time to time to try and get into them. she might never like them.

yeah my gf isnt into fps though haha, she likes sims... the sims 2 sim city.. al lthat stuff,.

Some people don't like FPS games. There is nothing you can do about it.

Just so you know, a LOT of girls play CS and Joint Ops like military FPS games. They are bloody good at it as well.

I'm talking about this tourney:-

This is what the games look like: <Show her these video>

IC-Europe Mod Alpha demo: <Next campaign begins in a few weeks>

Anybody who wants in on this Sunday's battle please contact me. You guys can represent OCForums. It is a 200 man server, and we have about 150 people slug it out every Sunday.

I've never seen Joint Ops before. It looks fun!!

I got her to agree to install Portal today, we'll see how it goes. I know once she gets the hang of the controls she will like the FPS. She just has to give it a chance and work past her frustrations and be patient. I hope it works out. :/

99% of the time, you won't be able to persuade a girl to play FPS games unless she already plays them. Also, the other methods you suggested aren't exactly... the best. I'd try going with the "long way" deRusett suggested.

She can probably get into a game called Delta Force Black Hawk Down from NovaLogic the same developers from Joint Ops..Its a fun and fast arcade like FPS game run and gun, not just arcade but there are little bit tactics involved..its a fun game but cheaters can get annoying. Still has good graphics for a 2003 game and about 1.2k active players and a bunch of servers + novaworld stat servers. I was in a clan called 82ndAB we had about 40 members total at one point back in 05 and I believe we had 5 active gamers that were girls.

I wouldnt try and promote FPS by using an old and nearly dead game like JointOps.

Nobody who has tried the International Conflict-Mod will say that. ;)
Show me a server where you see about 160 people without fail on EVERY Sunday?

Joint Ops is cheap ($20.00 for both the game and the expansion pack) and of course the mod is a free download. If you want to give it a shot, let me know and I'll get you in for this week's battle. Make sure you have a headset though as this is the real deal when it comes to communications. :)

Simple rundown:
You have two opposing armies (this campaign it is the Swiss vs Germans) organized as a real army would be, i.e Airforce, Armour and Infantry. Each army is commanded by a General and his staff. Neutral observers (the United Nations) run the tourney and are in charge of everything to do with it. It is fun man...

On pubbie servers you run around being a rambo, but here you work as an Army. For example, I'm in the Armored division and we were asked to support an Infantry push on their bases. The infantry lay out a mortar barrage, clearing the forward positions, tanks (us) sit back and pund them from the flanks, a few jeeps pushed on them from the rear as a distraction and this was followed by the airforce escorting a 20 man Blackhawk with paratroopers. We took that base alright and then some!

They're older, but they might work better to introduce someone to FPS who is not yet into the twitch factor of them. Try Deus Ex or the Thief games depending on her story preferences. Deus Ex, in particular, has a great story and you can sneak your way through so much of it in so many different ways that it seems like it might appeal if she's not into the joys of blasting people with rocket launchers.

The beauty of it is that Deus Ex is also equipped for more regular killin' action if you want to transition that way.

She's playing Portal right now. This is so cool. I wanna take a picture!

Yea but portal only takes a few hours before you beat it!

Which is just long enough for her to start getting hooked. She already likes it! It's really cool to see her playing this. She's getting the hang of it really fast. And she's using a Wacom tablet to boot.

This is hilarious. She's already talking to herself.

"Yeah, that's right".

"And what mofo's"

She's already on level 13! She's actually really good at this. She picked it up quick. This is good. Soon enough she's gonna be good enough to start playing combat games.

Now how do you make sure she doesn't get better than you. ;)

I doubt that would happen but it is possible. She's gotten pretty much as good as it gets in everything she's done so far on the PC. She's a GOD at Photoshop now and pretty much knows her way around Windows almost as well as me. She also knows her way around hardware now as well. Still a bit more to learn in the hardware area but she gets how everything works and how you might go about fixing it. She really wants to get a Quad for her board now (I made sure her board was Quad ready), and she'll probably be pad modding it whenever she gets it.

She stopped at 15. I'm hoping she will get through the whole thing and then switch to a LAN game with me.

Portal is a great idea, but is she playing your version?

What you should do is just buy her the entire Orange Box set so she has her own copy of everything ;) Then I see 2 options:

1. Get her interested in the Halflife story. Most girls I know like a lot of story in the games, so I'd perhaps start her off with that Halflife 1 remake, then move on to the next ones. She might be one of the girls that finds most of the content a bit "too scary".

2. Since you both now have your own copies of everything, get her into TF2. Create your own server and go 1v1 for a while, and she'll probably get into tryin to frag you ;)

For another suggestion, a friend of mine absolutely LOVES the Unreal Tournament series, and UT3 will be out very soon.
