We get a lot of questions on how to setup BOINC and run SETI, so heres an attempt at explaining it.
1. Download BOINC and install

BOINC - Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing
BOINC is what SETI and the other projects run off of.
2. Create your account for the project that your going to be participating in.
This can be done from the "Create Account" link on each of the following
project pages.
NOTE: If you already have a classic SETI account, you can use this link to activate it
Classic SETI Account Activation, this will then allow your account page to show your classic stats as well.
SETI@home - Look for radio evidence of extraterrestrial life
ClimatePrediction.net - study climate change
Einstein@home - search for gravitational signals coming from pulsars
LHC@home - improve the design of the CERN LHC particle accelerator
Predictor@home - investigate protein-related diseases.
Once you have created an account, an email will be sent to you from the
project with your "Account ID" and the "Project's Url". This long string of
letters and numbers is what the project will use to identify you. NOTE: If
you sign up for multiple projects, you will given a unique Account ID for each
one.
It is recommended that you join more then one project in case an individual
project has downtime you will still be able to obtain work. As long as you
use the same email, and run both projects on at least one computer your
"Cross Project ID" can sync allowing for your credits to be combined to result in a
"BOINC Total".

Under section 5 will explain how you can then divide up your computing
resources to each project.
3. Attach to project.
Now that you have an account ID and project url you can set BOINC up to
start crunching for that project.
Open up BOINC, you can either go to your programs menu and bring it up, or
double click the BOINC icon in the system tray. Now select the "Projects"
tab from the top. Click the "Attach To new project" button. Enter the
information that you received in the email from the project when you
registered into the approriate data blanks, and click OK. BOINC will now
contact the project's websites and retrieve the applications needed for the
project, along with some work units. You can check on the work units from
the WORK tab on the BOINC program.
4. Joining Overclockers.com's BOINC Teams.
Go to the Project's website that you signed up for and are running now.
Click "YOUR ACCOUNT" enter your accound ID and you'll be taken to your
account settings page.
Under "Account statistics" is a setting marked TEAM. Under this setting
select the join team option. Search for our team "Overclockers.com" and it
should bring up an option to join team. You can confirm that you have joined
our team by going back to the "YOUR ACCOUNT" page and you should see
Overclockers.com listed for your team.
5. YOUR ACCOUNT - Preferences
NOTE: Settings will not take effect till BOINC contacts the project and
updates its settings, also settings will propagate from project to project if
one of your computers contains both projects.
You may also setup other setup options called, HOME, SCHOOL, WORK.
Section 6 will explain how to control what computers run which settings.
GENERAL - Most of the settings are self explanatory here, an important
setting to make note of is the "Connect to network about every" days
setting. This controls how much work your computers will cache. If your
participating in just a single project, you'll want a larger cache(+5days) in
case of work outages from server problems or other issues. If you
participate in more then one project you can keep this lower as chances are
you won't run out of work as much as long as at least one of the projects
your running is operational.
PROJECT - Each project will have its own set of preferences for itself.
Resource share is what controls how much you dedicate to each project, this
setting has no effect if your only running on project on a computer.
If you are running two projects it works like this. I set a resource share of
100 for Project A, 200 for Project B, and 300 for Project C. Project A will be
given (100)/(100+200+300)=17%, Project B will get 33%, and Project C will
receive 50%.
There are also settings for modifying the screensaver settings as well here.
6. Your Account - Computers On This Account
NOTE: You'll notice an "IP ADDRESS" listed, this is only visible to you when
your logged in, so you don't have to worry about other people seeing this.
This will provide you with a list of computers you have running the project.
Click the Computer ID to be given more information. If you click the number
next to RESULTS, you can check what work units have been done by the
computer, and their status(Credit granted, pending). If you click the WORK
UNIT ID#, you can get additional information on the work unit regarding who
else is crunching the work unit your doing and how close the unit is to being
validated.
LOCATION, this is where you can deceide which Preferences your individual
computers use, Home, work, or school.
