Hi guys
I had my CPU overclocked to 4.0 GHz and had been stable for weeks , until I updated the GPU/Video card
I had overclocked by basically increasing the Baseclock to 200, then incrementally increasing the CPU clock ratio until x 20 / 200x20 = 4.0GHz .
But recently I updated my Video card from my stop-gap HD7770 to HD7950 , since then the I had constant freezing/lockup issues ( Computer screen stayed on but literally froozen and CPU fan would stop ) . I Memtested , HDD Tested and Ran Virus Checks , though I resorted to loading stock settings which seemed to iron out the freezing.
Since I had reverted back to 'Optimized defaults' and computer is reliable enough . So now I am to start from scratch . I've read the guides and overclocked before . though I still have questions regarding overclocking and Bios. I understand base clock ,multiplier , ram and voltages , however there are options within Bios that I still feel concerned about when overclocking . I've googled these allready , though information doesn't allways take OC'ing into consideration . So please enlighten me , do these BIOS options affect stable overclocking , if so how (negative and/or positively) and simply which options should be chosen or avoided ? :
I have highlighted options I have chosen in bold
1 No-Execute Memory Protect- Enable/disable
2 HDD smart Capability ( I have HDD sentinel software already installed ) -Enable / Disable
3 Intel Turbo Boost Tech - Auto /Enable / Disable
4 CPU advanced Halt C1E -Auto /Enable / Disable
5 C3/C6 support ( Hibernation/sleep mode AFAIK)- Auto/enable/disable
6 CPU thermal monitor -Auto /Enable / Disable
7 CPU Eist Function- Auto /Enable / Disable
8 Bi-Directional Prochot- Auto /Enable / Disable
9 QPI Clock ratio- Auto /x32/x64
10. PCI Express Frequency ( auto/ 90-150)
10i CPU Clock Drive .9V ( Determined by GPU Bios AFAIK )
10ii PCI Express Clock .7V-1V ?
10iii CPU Clock Scew 0-750ps / Auto
10iv PCH Clock Scew 0-750ps /Auto
11 Load line Calibration- Auto/ Enable/disable
CPU VCore ( I understand this is OC'ed to stabilize where necessary )
12 QPI/Vtt Volts Auto /Manual ( Auto = 1.1V)
13 PCH Core Auto/ Manual ( auto = 1.050 V )
14 CPU-PLL Auto/Manual ( auto = 1.8 V )
15 Dram Voltage , termination , Channel Data & Address V Ref's all= AUTO = 0.750 V
15 Dram Voltge Auto =1.5V
