I'm considering a Xeon upgrade to a Alienware Area 51 [circa 2006].
I'd like to go to E5-2620 6Core $409
http://ark.intel.com/products/64594
And am looking at this mb
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P9X79/ $249

This one says socket 2011, but it does not say XEON. It touts Core i7.
Any reason that this MB wouldn't work with this processor?

I'll make sure that this form factor fits in my case, but I want to make sure that the processor and MB are compatible.

Thanks,
ww

However, I do see this for the Xenon chips. Looks like I should look for another MB with a server chipset.

*Intel Xeon Processor Family is designed for servers. Some features may not support when installed on X79 series chipsets. For more details, refer to ASUS support site at http://support.asus.com.

I missed the CPU support tab. Thanks,
ww

Try looking for this Xeon instead Intel XEON E5-1650 V2 and see what you think, it could be much better than one you have chosen!!
