Either way is possible.
It's easiest to install it after Linux is installed.
Usually you can just select Grub as your bootloader during the installation of Linux. If not given the option just run 'grub' from a shell to get a grub prompt. do 'man grub' or google for how to install grub. It's very easy to install.
