You should be able to hit about 3.9 safely with your current setup. When I was going for 4.0 i decided it was time to upgrade the fan. Super loud, but I got a high OC on air. Im running 1.584V now and its been running like a champ
1.58v for 4ghz  that CPU is poo lol

it is at 1.3250v, 1.3 is for 3.6GHz, i would guess stock is 1.2850v
1.3150 was unstable at 3.7GHz :(
@oerllikon going higher than 3.7 comes at the cost of cool n quiet, not a feature i will give up
30min of prime:

do we have spoiler bbcode tags here? i could make the sensor data use less space on the page

@keny what is "skt"?
Click reply and you will see the spoiler tags used, and my reply to you're question

skt means socket temp on the motherboard not the actual core temp of the CPU, but its ok as you can get a rough idea if what you're core temp is from the skt reading

now that i noticed this is on the next page...
would using suspend (to ram) make me need to restart my prime test?
@oerllikon
how did you get a 200mm fan on a 120mm heatsink mount? up too late running prime, CFM != mm

EDIT: just finished 2 hrs of prime, off to bed

The reason we run Prime is to a) get the processor as hot as we possibly can using a software load, b) make sure that even under heavy load at high temps, the processor still completes calculations correctly, and c) make sure that even under these high loads and temps, the processor doesn't exceed a thermal restriction known to cause instability, throttling and in extreme cases, damage.

Short answer; If there is any interruption in the test, it should be redone.

How many hours would you consider overnight? (6/8/12) i can probably find a good day to let it run
Hey Dlaw I see you have a 550 TI also what temp does the fan speed increase from 30%, mine maxes at 55C and the fan speed is still 30%, from what i have gathered it is 60C it goes up, are you able to confirm that?
Sorry for going offtopic

I'm not really sure, as I use EVGA PrecisionX's fan curve app to max the fan @ 60C. If I let it get hotter than that, it heats the whole case up.

Edit:
You can do the same thing with this addon for Nvidia Control Panel.

No, we disable Cool n Quiet because it interferes with testing, as it's already hard enough to determine what's causing a processor to act irregularly without something that's designed to mess with core frequencies and voltages.

ok, jsut find it odd my vcore is higher at idle then running prime
prime is at 1.310
when in performance mode my vcore sits at 1.32

i also noticed my cpu hit 48C, my pull fan was no spinning... stupid fan controller's auto not acting right, it is like it does not give it the voltage/amperage to work right
it will sit the with it's leds on and not spin on auto, on manual the blades start moving before the led even comes on, my non led fans work fine with it

vdroop explains my sensor readings compared to what i have set in my bios
yes fan thing and voltage things are different things, i added line breaks to my post to make this more obvious

would 6 hrs of prime be enough to say it is stable (i am at the 6 hour point)
edit:
make that 7 hours
edit:
this will be good enough

did you like the spoiler tag suspense?
1.346 is the highest i see from vdroop
1.325 is there it is set, increments are 0.015
be nice if there was a way to up the IPC, lol
If that were 10 times higher those 300MHz would feel like 3GHz

anyway thinks, any comments on on post 70s fan thing are appreciated

/me waits till he sees he could be @ 4ghz with just a bit more vcore=)

Back OT Nice oc with low voltage

On a side not you seam pretty linux savvy have you given Overcloix a try ?

would have went for 3.8 if not for the lack of C&Q, right now overclocking for the fun of it is not worth loosing feature (most cpu intensive process use is a poorly designed browser plugin called adobe flash), i went through a lot of effort to get my frequency indicators working the way i like in xubuntu 12.10 (by which i writing some to work in genmon that look like the ones from gnome 2)
have not tried it
3.6GHz only needed 1.3V

3.7GHz would be considered modest IMO so i marked the thread as solved

i managed to out preform a i5 (edit i5-750) cpu on a flash benchmark by ~2k points, on top of that windows runs flash faster in my exp so there was a handicap and it was still faster
score was 19170 (stepping disabled, in performance mode)

I turned my system on today and it told me overclocking failed, and now i am using my stock 3.4GHz, any idea why it failed when i have not touched any settings?
EDIT: since i have seen this error with memory before, i set it to auto on my timings, and it booted w/3.7GHz, strange thing is the ram is manually set to the manufacturer's specs
