Depends on the board and the chip.
I had no issue on my 890FXA-UD5 black socket board. No where's near as good a clocker as my Sabo, but I had no throttling issues.

My white socket R 2.1 890FXA-UD5 was troublesome. Serious throttling. The black socket board was good as you have stated.

Exactly, AMDs backwards compatibility is fine as long as bios are up to date and manufacturer specifically notes support added for new CPUs
