I have a few questions....

1. I keep getting "No work avail" and I cant download any w/u's.

2. How do you get a large queue? I can only get 4 w/u's if I can connect.

3. I have credit according to the setiweb, and It also shows that im on this team, but on stats page for our team, it doesnt show my name?

Thanks guys!

Adam

For increasing the your work cache.

Go to your account on the seti boinc page. Then General Preferences, change how often its set to connect to network, this sets how many days worth of WUs to download. I wouldn't go over 5 days for this setting.

As for connecting to their webpage, I can't either at the moment, so I'm guessing there is some techical difficulties, also I think the stats sites might be having issues getting current statistics which would prvent your name from showing up on the stats.

Hmm, maybe they are moving database to new hardware now :-/

We can only hope :)

Ayoung:

Once their pages are back up and you get your queue setup - just a heads up - if you have your queue set to 3 days, it will 'generally' only upload completed workunits every 3 days (and when you do a manual update). If you have an always-on internet connection and would like completed work units to upload immediately upon completion - right click and select properties on your BOINC icon (the one in the STARTUP programs folder, not the one in the 'BOINC' folder) and the following to the very end of the Target text box:

-return_results_immediately

Just as an example, here is what my entire Target box says (note the double-quote placement)
"C:\Program Files\BOINC\boinc_gui.exe" -min -return_results_immediately

Wow, tanks a lot Enkido! Big help!

Geeeeeez... this is like 2 days long now and this is driving me crazy since I just started up again....

Indeed - very frustrating. Hopefully all for the better though! They really are in a period of transition (at least according to them) - I know since I started up BOINC again at the beginning of January I don't think I've had 1 solid week with no interruptions - yuck! Hopefully when they eliminate classic that will free up some hardware resources they can use the strengthen BOINC's foundation.

In about 3 days, Berk's hardware resources should improve a little. :) My Classic Queue should be empty by then, so I can get BOINC'n! I'll have the farm down for a few days between projects so I can clean the dust out of the comps, and maybe do some upgrades.

Crunch on!

They are in the process of moving all the databases to new hardware and have been having some issues while trying to complete this move. Below is a quote from their Tech News Page:

February 3, 2005 - 23:30 UTC
Around 12:40 UTC today the BOINC database server didn't crash as much as hang there doing nothing, spinning on hundreds of threads (and prohibiting any new connections). After hours of troubleshooting we had to kill it ungracefully which resulted in several hours of rebooting and recovery. Eventually, we were able to get back on line with (seemingly) everything intact.

There remains two outstanding issues, though. The current database continues to produce heavy I/O for no obvious reason, and we still need to migrate it all the data to the new server (this task is slated for this upcoming Monday).

February 1, 2005 - 01:00 UTC
We were about one third or so through the database migration when the new server hung and the migration job stopped. We are diagnosing the problem now. During the migration the internal I/O mentioned below (we think it is some sort of garbage collection) was also occurring. This was vastly slowing the data movement to the new server. In addition to figuring out why the server crashed, we will wait until the garbage collection is finished before restarting the migration. It will be at least a day from now.

Another Question...

As you can see I have a few different times on here, directly effecting the credits.

1- Around 40 credits.... which is the normal on my computer as well. (30-40 credits)

2- the .20 credits??? Was that a horribly small w/u?

3- The last 3 w/u's along with the one it is on now are taking over 20 thousand seconds (about 5 hrs).. Now are these larger w/u's? Or did my computer take a crap. These number are comming for my laptop... 2800+, 512.

If it's like classic, the higher crunch times probably came from low AR work units. I'm not sure how you could check that with BOINC (if you can). I'd keep an eye on it, but not worry much about it unless the computer itself was acting up.

Check that out?? 1 with like 10K seconds with 40 credits.. then another with like 10K seconds and only 10 credits???

Whats going on with that? These equations they use must be really f'ed.
