I am not sure how to answer. The drives are really 40GB, but there are 4 of them in RAID.

I have the same type of problem. But it says largest drive. I wonder if they mean a physical hard drive, or the total raid drives as one array?

I have 40GB all together (38.8GB)

well I figured I'd post too

my largest drive is a 200Gig 8MB WD drive..next smallest ones are 2 120G 8MB WD. My most favorite MF is actualy Maxtor because their drives come with 3.5->5.25" mounting rails for the drives (tho tthe 8MB cache WD's are nice too)

Other drives are: (all 7200RPM)
2 Maxtor 20Gig
3 Maxtor 30Gig
2 Maxtor 40Gig
3 IBM 8Gig
a few 1-3Gig drives

and about 4 1-3Gig 10kRPM SCSIs (which are not used):D

{update}
almost forgot...the 120 Gigs formated down to about 112 Gigs
and the 200 was like 180 something (like 187)

*edit* 200G formatted to 186G

have 2*40gig in a raid 1 for windows and my programs on tx2000 raid controller
another 40 gig for my stuff on mobo controller
2 gig scsi for mp3's on 2940uw

All my disks are IBM DNES-903170 SCSI 9.1Gb unformatted, 8.53Gb FAT32 formatted

I dont use E-IDE at all, I also dont like putting all my eggs in one basket so I have all 10 of them in a Level 5 disk array

I also have external RAID boxes and they also have 9Gb disks but they are all Seagates

Three HDs = total of 300 (actual) or 320 (labeled) HD space. I do a lot of video editing and having all that space isn't just nice, it's a necessity.

I have two simple questions, ok mayber 3. How does anyone use up 200 gigs of info? I mean, fine, some games are 1 gig (SOF:II):D But what do you use all that space for? And wouldn't it be better to get 2 120 gig hds or 2 80 gig hds? I want to know cause im about to build a comp and im getting two small drives instead of 1 big one. What should i do.

I use my disks for storage of my "stuff" I run an IRC server and I also store pictures and video.

2 smaller disks would give a storage area of a larger disk but you will not be putting all your eggs in one basket.

If you have 1x 160Gb disk you can ill afford to have that disk die but 2 of 60Gb you would have half your data still intact if it dies, this is why I use RAID level 5 for my disks
