Ya but if you have less contact b/t the CPU and HSF the HSF should get colder and the CPU hotter b/c of less heat being xfered into the HSF.
 
Well I dont see any reason to think otherwise. If you dont have good contact, then your heat sink is not gonna get as hot because it is not gonna get the same amount of heat disipation into it. The CPU should get hotter because of the fact that it isnt getting the heat taken out of it.
