Did you end up keeping yours?
No, I actually opted for the refund. All my friends (myself included) are a bit unhappy over the empty space in my desk where it used to be (no more Halo 3 or Smash Bros. Mele for the time being ). I'm looking at getting a 2407WFP (A04) to replace it, but I'll prolly wait a few days to order it so I'll be able to pick it up from home the next time I'm down there (college to home is a good 2hr drive). I'll keep y'all posted, and I'll post some comparison pics once I get around to it :p.

Just ordered a brand new 2407WFP-HC

Hi everyone!

I just bought a new 2407WFP-HC and its scheduled to ship on 4th Nov 07. I read through all the posts in this thread and the dell one and I am really worried now. Please guide me for a new 1920x1200 res monitor to which I can connect an xbox 360 and play @ 1080p full HD.

To be honest, I made the decision to buy this monitor this morning and before that I didn't know crap about HDCP compliant monitors and their ability to be compatible with xbox 360 (and other cable box, hddvd/bluray devices). So, now that my eyes are opened, I want to know (in you all's opinion, especially mobious since he has got a lot of experience with 2407wfp-hc) whats the best monitor to go for at this point in time:drool:? I can cancel it right away if you guys direct me to the best possible 24" 1920x1200 monitor set-up.

Please enlighten this poor fellow:confused:. I would be very grateful.

Sincerely,

DJ

PS-I will be gaming through my X1900XT on full res too :). Also budget needs to be as low as possible. How about Samsung 245BW?

Cancel it, and look for a 2407WFP (A04) outside of Dell, that's at least the route I'm taking. Don't have much to say about it other than that I'm afraid.

From what I've read, the Samsung 245BW had good reviews, it is not an 8 bit panel though. Myself, I am probably going to get the Samsung 244T which is an 8 bit panel, 1920x1200 etc. As for the Dells I can't say for sure. I only have personal experience with Samsung LCDs, so Mobious would probably be the one to look to for advice regarding the Dells.

If you aren't worried about getting an 8 bit panel, the Samsung 245BW is a great monitor. If you want an 8 bit panel, I'd go with the 244T or as Mobious said, the 2407WFP (A04).

Hopefully this helps you out! :)

I havent seen a 8bit panel in person, but from what i have read, its great for people that do alot of Photo editing. But for daily use, gaming and porn surfing, a 6bit panel will get the job done imo.

The human eye can't see more than 2million colors anyway. No real need for the 16.7mil base on most gaming monitors to begin with. Less colors = more headroom for performance. The HC for instance, is AWESOME with still pics (aka: photo editing, stuff that doesn't move on the screen), but sucks when it comes to moving objects (aka: games, movies and 3D CAD). This is why I wish the Non-HC was still for sale as a separate item...

Nah. I am just gonna wait for the next dell 2408wfp just around the corner. Monitor is a long time investment, and I want to make sure I get the one with a good quality/price ratio. Dell really screwed this up...EVERY thing is perfect about this monitor except the ghosting issue.. :bang head

And, I know why the CRA is only valid until 11-08-07. A new one is coming out soon...most probably before the holiday season.

alright guys this monitor is on sale atm. Are they trying to clear the shelves? shall i order one?, i am looking into a 24 inch monitor with component in but want to keep the costs under 600, I don't want to be stuck with a monitor with ghosting issues. are they going to have a fix by nov 3? im hoping to order the monitor right after the SAT (nov3)

Not by that date, I'm afraid. In their "formal" study results, they said that: A. they do not plan to fix the issue (reasons unknown), and B. those with this issue have until November 8th to schedule a full refund. As far as which monitor to go with ATM, it's debatable. After seeing what's happened with this monitor, I don't really know which brand to trust anymore. There's news about the next gen of Dell 24"-ers out in Japan (http://www.ocforums.com/showpost.php?p=5289346&postcount=2), but as of yet there isn't a really solid answer of which 24" monitor is the best I'm afraid.

I suggest BenQ FP241W or Gateway FPD2485W. All have favorable reviews. I would shy away from Dell for awhile. As far as SAMSUNG 245BW goes, some people claim ghosting issues some dont.

I too am now in the perdiciment of what LCD to get, I'd like between a 22 and 24" an was thinking of the gateway FPD2485W. Anyone have any input on it?

I would wait till next year If I were you. Seems like most if not all 24" have flaws (some are major like Dell) unlike the 20" counter part. Just hold your urges.

The Gateway one is now $499 with coupon.
Con: you have to adjust the color settings out of the box, gets really Hot

Here's 2 more that you can research.

LG L246WP-BN

NEC 2470WNX

I was worried after reading this thread because I had ordered the 2407-hc one day prior. Well I've had it now for a couple of weeks and so far I have yet to experience any ghosting. I've done a quite a bit of gaming, desktop apps and tv/videos/movies... so I'm relieved that I'm not plagued with ghosts like so many others.
