Hi,

Just bought an ASUS P6T Deluxe motherboard but haven't opened it yet since I noticed there is a version 2 but I haven't been able to find out what the real differences are?

I know the SAS ports have been removed on the v2 board but seems very strange to me the only "improvement" on a v2 would be the removal of a feature?! As for the supported DDR3 speeds it says on my ASUS P6T Deluxe box it supports up to 1600MHz but when I checked ASUS own site here -> http://www.asus.com/products_compare_show.aspx?array_model=2593,2746&l1=3 you can see they say the non-v2 version supports 2000MHz as well but then again here -> http://se.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=179&l3=815&l4=0&model=2593&modelmenu=2 they say it doesn't but only supports up to 1600MHz. Another difference is the first link says both versions support up to 24GB RAM but the second says the version 1 P6T Deluxe only supports up to 12 GB RAM...hmm...?!?!

Anyone who knows what the real deal behind the v2 P6T is...?

If anyone knows anything, they aren't talking. I suspect we will never know what else, if anything, is different.

the first P6T definitely only supports 12 gb of ram. so that might be one of the differences if v2 supports 24

Sent an email question to ASUS today asking them what the actual differences are between the two versions, will let you know what they come back with.

I'm not trying to be a **** (it just comes naturally) but all Asus is going to say is what they've been saying for over a month now, that the difference is that the V2 does not have the SAS ports, nothing else.

Guess you're right, a little bit fun though that I in my email to them pointed out that they in fact have different facts on different pages at their own site where one of the pages says the v1 mobo also supports 24 GB DDR3 2000Mhz RAM...and after I sent that they became very silent...;-)

So, here is my conversation with ASUS and interesting enough is they say in their last response that there is in fact no differences between the boards when it comes to supported memory speeds etc. However when I tried accessing the links in their last response they didn't work...

Hi,

Just bought the P6T Deluxe OC Palm edition motherboard but then I found a version
2 of the P6T is coming out and there seem to be a lot of confusion what the actual
differences between the V1 and V2 are?

So far one of the main things (the only thing) is that the SAS ports have been
removed from the V2 board but are there other things as well? Looking at your own
site on one page it says the version 1 supports up to 24GB 2000MHz DDR3 memory
just like the version 2 but on another page it says the version 1 board only supports
up to 12 GB 1600MHz DDR3 memory and this is also what I can read on the box.

Please advice!

Dear Valued ASUS Customer!

What pages are you talking about?

Hi,

These are the pages I'm talking about...

http://www.asus.com/products_compare_show.aspx?array_model=2593,2746&l1=3
(which states both version 1 and version 2 support 24 GB DDR3 2000MHz)

http://se.asus.com/products.aspx?
l1=3&l2=179&l3=815&l4=0&model=2593&modelmenu=2 (while this page says the
non-V2 supports only 12 GB DDR3 1600MHz)

...so what's the real deal here and also are there any other differences except for the
removal of the SAS ports I should be aware of deciding which board to choose?

Best regards,

Richard

Dear Valued ASUS Customer!

The SAS ports should be the main difference. For RAM compatibility, plese check the
QVL in the download section for each motherboard.

OK, if the removal of the SAS ports are the main difference what are the minor
differences? To me it doesn't make sense releasing a v2 only to remove a feature?!

As for the supported memory speeds for the v1 vs the v2, why does it say on one of
the pages I showed you at your own site that the v1 board supports 24 GB RAM and
2000 MHz if that is not true?

Beeing a loyal ASUS customer for many years I think it would be nice if you could
come up with a little bit more detailed info on the questions I have since I don't like to
spend $ on your products only to be disappointed later on when I might find out what
the actual differences are between the v1 and v2 boards so please put some more
effort in your next reply than simply confirming the fact I already know and told you I
knew...in this case that the SAS ports have been removed.

Best,

Richard

Dear Valued ASUS Customer!

The removal of the SAS controller is the only difference.

Ok and what about the supported memory speeds?

I asked you this three times now since you have contradictory information on your
site where one page says the version 1 board supports only 1600MHz where the
other page also at your own site says it supports 2000MHz just like the version 2
board - why are you having different info on different pages and what is the correct
information?!?!

Dear Valued ASUS Customer!

P6T RAM QVL is here:

http://dlsvr04.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1366/P6T_Deluxe/QVL-P6T-Deluxe.zip

and

P6T Deluxe V2 RAM QVL is here
http://dlsvr04.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1366/P6T_Deluxe_V2/QVL_P6T-Deluxe.zip

So, they are the same, and supports three types of 2000 MHZ RAM.

i would defently love to know what the real diferences are since it sounds kind of BS that the only thing is the SAS.. mainly because i plan on buying one of these in the next 2 weeks or so.. but asus CS sadly sucks big time, just like their website that it's as slow as it gets

Agreed , for a "bigtime" company their website sucks. It takes me 5 minutes check on my Rampage II board they have been holding hostage since Feb 23.

I thought another difference was you could use socket 775 cooling solutions on the v.2 boards as the added another set of holes.

The pictures on Newegg are pretty clear and there are no additional holes in the v2 board. You can read the V2 labeling on the V2 picture so I assume they took new pictures for it.

It's also clear in the pictures that the SAS components are missing.

what exactly are SAS ports for?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_Attached_SCSI

I picked up one of these off Newegg today I'm pretty excited about it after the research I did. The SAS ports are kind of like the esata, and firewire ports I find on the motherboards I buy.....never used. Plus, I've read of some users experiencing issues with it not working at all.

We'll see...

Edit: Well looks like we won't be going down the P6T Deluxe V2 Road after all...canceled the order and went with the Rampage instead.
