At the risk of sounding corny, definition of a hero is "someone that gets people killed" and i have seen my fair share in my 5y special forces abroad. All that bravado counts for nothing is one of the nut jobs that prowls these discussion threads takes you up on your offer and shows up when you're sleeping or blindsides you or goes for your family instead just because he can :( think before you post details of your life on a public thread m8 :(

Agreed.

I imagine they had this nearly all along, but wanted to try to force Apple's hand for the keys to the castle from them.

They say May Be Able, that's a big maybe for me.

Can't the FBI use a supercomputer to crack the password or get data off the memory chip?
It's not that simple. iPhones running 2014's iOS 8 software or the newer iOS 9 protect their data using 256-bit AES encryption. That's the same standard that protects US government computers against brute-force attacks intended to crack into a device. It could take years to recover data by attacking the iPhone's memory chip, Stratechery's Ben Thompson explains.

It's important to note, adds Thompson, that "Apple is not being asked to break the encryption on the iPhone in question...but rather to disable the functionality that wipes the memory when multiple wrong passcodes are entered in a row."

yeah i heard about this on the radio, they only want access to one single phone that belonged to one of the shooters in california's mass shooting not every phone. its as simple as the phone is locked and they want apple to bypass it so they can access the data, they are afraid it has an auto wipe feature if they tamper with it wrongly.

I don't know anything about politics or anything!

can anybody explain o me why people are mad at fbi? I mean it's not like they're gonna look at their family pictures because they're nosy :D its for good! I mean would you really rather get blown up while shopping?! I mean there's nothing to worry about unless you're a terrorist.

Actually , that's very close to the real concern. People don't trust the government nor their intentions. They want a backdoor key for every iPhone so they can use it as the mood strikes them. That is very naughty. J. Edgar Hoover pretty much sealed the fate of the FBI's reputation for bad acts and bad intent. The government here is supposed to be kept on a short leash. It is unfortunate that the beast is becoming harder to contain.

The FBI doesn't stop at terrorism. You may recall the FBI's actions against MLK Jr. and more recently Occupy Wall Street. Those who don't learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.

Martin Niemöller said:
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

The recent bills passed in Mississippi and North Carolina and pending in Tennessee and thankfully vetoed in Georgia only clearly tell us where we're going.

. Well that's no good
That's why I don't let my self know much about politics :|

And anyone with the ability to read and comprehend a history book. Power is a ravenous, ill mannered beast. It feeds on freedom and is never sated.

“Under the proposed rules, the government would now be able to obtain a single warrant to access and search thousands or millions of computers at once; and the vast majority of the affected computers would belong to the victims, not the perpetrators, of a cybercrime.”

The ruling is essentially blanket permission for the Injustice Dept. to hack any computer anywhere for any reason.
