Hi there Recently started tinkering around to OC my i7 930 I've been reading some guides and followed alone pretty closely but for the life of me i cant get anything to run prime 95 smafft stable, my MB is a GA x58a UD5 heres what I've done...

EIST [disable] Turbo [disable] C1 [disable] memory enhance [standard]

Cpu Multiplier [x19] Bclk [191]

vdimm [1.65]
cpu pll [1.88]
QPI vtt [1.35]
vcore [1.275]
ioh [1.20]
ich [1.20]

thats everything I altered in the BIOS at first... Prime95 BSOD'd so i made some changes over time i've tried...
lowering bclk to 190... fail
setting multiplier to x19 and bclk to 211... fail
going back to x19 bclk at 191 upped vcore to 1.28... fail, vcore to 1.30... fail
Lowered DDR ratio to 2:6 to lower ram clock to 1150 (or something) because i'm only running 1333 ram and my OC put it up to 1540, thought this was the problem for sure but... fail.

I've since gone back to stock but i really want to get my 930 running 4ghz. Most guides i've read only refer to the 920 so it's hard to get solid answers and most of those seem to think you can run this OC at the settings listed above with no problems. I would continue raising the vcore, I've read you can go up to 1.45 with half decent cooling but I'm a little weary of going beyond 1.30 without knowing for sure that all my other settings are good.

With everything stock ive ran prime95 6+ hours stable and my cores topped out at 72C. I have a H50 cooler with x2 56cfm fans in a push/pull config.

Any advice would be much appreciated I'm dying to unlock the true power of this cpu!

I have a 930 on a UD5 and this is my current settings. PC specs is in my sig.

First off, :welcome:

I highly recommend reading This Guide It will give you the correct steps to overclock your processor. Every one is different, so just using settings from someone else may not work for you. Come back with any questions you may have while working through the guide.

I've restarted and am going through that exact guide, it's really well written!

@ sv3vn how is your vcore so low?? i'm at 1.4 and still unstable at 190mhz x21I don't really want to push it much higher as i'm approaching 80C at load, going to try upping to 191 to see if maybe ive just hit a hole or something

I see your using a lower multiplier and higher bclk than me, is there any advantage to that? I got it running stable at 190mhz x12 so i've been using 190 as my target.

well i've steadly been increasing vcore by 0.025 incriments to try to acheive stability at 190 bclk with no luck. After reaching 1.45 and temps topping out at 86 i'm not seeing any increase in stability at all and i don't want to attempt to push it any higher. vcore doesn't seem to be having any affect is there something else i might be missing? i've kept load line calibration on standard so far as i dont want to risk damaging my cpu, do you think level 1 will give me some stability when vcore doesn't seem to be doing the trick? also ive noticed that in cpu-z my cpu voltage is always lower than what i set it as in the BIOS by around 0.025 why?

Going back I lowered the clock to 180 vcore 1.20, then 185, vcore 1.225 seems to be stable so far. I might have to call it a day at 185 this at least gives me 3.8 ghz which is a huge increase and i'm only getting 72c at full load but it's a shame that i can't get it to 4ghz even though so many others have. I'll post all my setting once i'm sure it's stable for at least 6hrs and hopefully someone can give me a few pointers.

Its all trial and error. You can definately hit 4GHz if you keep trying. Sometimes using more than one resource helps solve the problem you are facing currently. I would suggest giving it another try if you are still on this forum. Or perhaps try asking other forums for more options.

I've just stabilized an i7 930 with GA-X58A-UD5 after one painful experience. I'll post settings once I'm back home. Temp is topping out at 80 degrees (Intel burn test after 2 hours).

Sorry I've been pretty busy lately so i've neglected my post.

I think my problem was too many voltages set to auto.
I went ahead and used you settings above to get running at 4ghz but i stepped up the vcore starting at 1.225. I was able to get it 6+ hrs stable with only 1.3 vcore although 78C is a little hot for my tastes, Success! or so I thought... Today i booted up and it failed to POST, had to reset the cmos. What could cause pass POST for an entire day run seemingly stable then fail the next day? more vcore may be in order but my temps are already starting to go beyond where id like them to be.
