My friend has a Emachines (not sure what model) and we are trying to turn off the onboard video so we can install his Radeon 7000 PCI card. Does anyone know how I would go about turning off the onboard video??

Your best bet is to try the bios. Most onboard motherboards have a section in the bios to disable the onboard graphics and or select which agp/pci slot to use.

Worst case just put it in. If you have a PCI video card, it will normally be initialized as the primary display by default in most cases. It may give you the option to choose the primary display device as either AGP or PCI. You want PCI if that's the case. There is one benefit of leaving the onboard video on. You could get a second monitor and run dual displays.
