Galaxy Releases GTX 760 GC

Factory Overclocked with Custom Cooler

Galaxy has just released their latest offering for the graphics performance enthusiast, the Galaxy GTX 760 GC. The card is the newest member of their NVIDIA 700-series lineup. It features 1152 CUDA cores with a factory overclock of 1058 MHz and a boost clock of 1110 MHz. Memory-wise, it comes with 2 GB of GDDR5 on a 256-bit wide bus. The memory is clocked at 6008 MHz for an effective bandwidth of 192.2 GB per second.

The Galaxy GTX 760 GC features a custom PCB and comes in at just 10″ long. In addition to the custom PCB, Galaxy has fitted the 760 with its custom twin-fan, quad-heatpipes cooling solution which aims at lower operating temperatures and lower noise. In the power department, the card is rated at 170W but Galaxy provides some impressive headroom by fitting the PCB with one 8-pin and one 6-pin PCI-E connectors for a total of 300W of available power.

The I/O panel includes two dual-link DVI ports, one HDMI connector and one DisplayPort.

IMO you're always better with a single better card then a lower end SLI setup.

IMO you're always better with a single better card then a lower end SLI setup.

However, a SLI of 760 beats a 780 in many cases for a lower price (a lot lower if you go for a 2GB version). Unfortunately, the 780 is a bit overpriced.

It beats it, sure, but to what end? Potential SLI issues like not scaling well (780 runs 100% all the time, SLI scaling is none(rare) to 80-90%(also rare) and settles around the 60-80 range so you don't have as much bang for your buck, a lot more power consumption and heat to dissipate versus a single card. Now, clearly this choice depends on the resolution but for any single monitor, SLI 760's are overkill. I would go single 770 for 1920x1080/1200 and only step up to 780 at 2560x1440/1600. With multi monitor, I would go with a 780/7970 as there is more bandwidth available as well as more vRAM.

The resolution will be 2560x1440, so a 770 4GB or a 780 are the only really viable options for single (NVidia) card.

A SLI of 4GB 760 can be a viable options given that I don't really care a lot about power consumption. I know that there're issues with SLI, but major games should be able to exploit the power (and a 70% is not bad).

In any case, I'll build my rig in mid/late August: there's a lot of time to think about it :)
