HyperX (a division of Kingston Technologies) lifted the embargo on their new Savage line of SSDs today, and we’re Johnny on the spot with a review on launch day. Meant to be the replacement for the HyperX 3K SSD, the Savage SSDs offer much faster speeds than its predecessor and does away with the SandForce controller in favor of the Phison S10 quad-core controller.
Kingston announced the release of its 4th generation HS4 All-In-One Media Reader, which improves upon previous versions by now supporting all major card formats. The latest SD card speeds (UHS-I, UHS-II) and CF type I and II (UDMA 0-7) are now fully supported. The USB 3.0 interface is backward compatible with USB 2.0 to ensure a wide range of usability.
We’re finally beginning to see more manufacturers bring M.2 SSDs to market, and Kingston HyperX now has SATA and PCIe interface units available. The SATA interface M.2 SSDs offer similar performance to the standard 2.5″ design we’ve been using for some time now, but with the advantage of much smaller space requirements. Of course, the most intriguing M.2 interface is PCIe, which promises wicked speeds over and above 1000 MB/s. Kingston sent over one of their new HyperX Predator M.2 PCIe x4 SSDs so we can see for ourselves what these drives are capable of.
Kingston has a long history of providing memory products for PC enthusiasts, so it’s no surprise they’ve gone all in with the latest DDR4 platform. Their current HyperX DDR4 offerings include the Predator and Fury lines, which are both aimed at enthusiast-level PC users. Today, we’ll be looking at a kit from Kingston’s HyperX Fury family – The 32 GB DDR4-2400MHz kit to be exact.
Oh DDR3… it was real, it was fun, but is hasn’t been really fun. DDR3 has came, saw, kicked some rear, and is now starting to see its way out. While Intel’s mainstream platform and all of AMD still use it, the release of DDR4 spells the eventual end to our close friend. Its time to learn something new folks. DDR4 brings lower voltage requirements, higher densities, and higher speeds.
Kingston needs no introduction to most of you as they are well known among computer enthusiasts for providing high-performance memory and storage products. Kingston recently informed us that their HyperX family of performance memory stands ready for use in Z97 chipset based motherboards. They kindly offered up a 16 GB kit (4X4 GB) of their HyperX Beast DDR3-2400 MHz to try out on the new chipset, so that’s exactly what we’ll do. Specifically, the kit in hand is part# KHX24C11T3K4/16X and boasts redesigned heatspreaders and a rather impressive set of specifications. Let’s get started!
Kingston sent along one of their newly released HyperX Fury memory kits for us to have a look at. This particular kit is the white version of the DDR3-1866 MHz 2X4 GB kit they will be offering in a variety of heatspreader colors. The HyperX Fury line will replace the entry level HyperX Blu memory products and is geared towards the beginner enthusiast and gamer. The Fury line of memory will position itself between the HyperX Genesis and high-end HyperX Predator. Kingston aims to give an attractive and affordable option to those users who find themselves wanting a little more than an entry level product, but don’t require a top-of-the-line memory offering. Sounds like a great idea to me, so let’s have a look!
