ASUS Z170-PRO Motherboard Review

There is a lot of competition in the mid-range sector of the motherboard market. With varying feature sets among boards in this market, it’s sometimes unclear which boards offer what features. So, today, we have a Z170-PRO from ASUS, which we’ll explore to find out what all it has to offer.

ASUS 970 PRO GAMING/AURA Motherboard Review

Today we’ll have a look at the ASUS 970 Pro Gaming/Aura AM3+ motherboard. It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen anything new in the AMD camp and change is always welcome. The 970 Chipset isn’t new but ASUS has come back with a nice set of features to update this platform. On top of that they’ve packaged them in a very nice looking, all new board. With the new AMD socket nearly a year away, it’s nice to see some new AM3+ motherboards with added features such as USB 3.1 and M.2 SSD functionality. One other interesting tidbit is the new Aura feature which allows the user to customize color and rhythm of the on-board RGB LEDs. For those who enjoy a bit of bling, this should be right up your alley.

ASUS Z170 ROG Maximus VIII Formula Motherboard Review

In a change of pace from my previous reviews, today we will take a look at a high-end gaming board from ASUS, the Maximus VIII Formula. The Formula is pegged as the flagship gaming board in their product stack. Not only does it have gaming centric features, the design theme is also agnostic and will fit in perfect with any theme or color scheme. Missing are the colored logos, heatsinks, and shrouds, replaced with a basic black motherboard with grey/silver heatsinks and shrouds. A monochromatic look.

One of the unique features is the integration of their Aura software and a header on the board to control your external RGB LED lighting strips. The board also has its own RGB LED lighting (28 LEDs in total) controlled by the same software. Outside of that, there is an integrated waterblock to keep the VRMs cool. Let’s dig in and see what else the board has to offer!

ASUS Maximus VIII Extreme Motherboard Review

Oh boy, where to start with this one folks? I’m not going to lie, I was pretty excited to get my hands on ASUS’ flagship Z170 board, the Maximus VIII Extreme (M8E as I will call it moving forward), to test it out to see what it will do. As is the case with past versions of this board, it comes chock-full of all the features the latest chipset offers including USB3.1 Gen2 (inc. Type-C), M.2 slot, DDR4 support and a slew of others you will see and we will discuss just a few flicks of the webwheel down the article. The M8E promises to provide both the extreme overclocker and the enthusiast gamer with everything they need to beat world records under sub-ambient cooling, or game with the best of them. It is now time to get comfy in your favorite chair and see what this board can do.

ASUS Sabertooth Z170 Mark 1 Motherboard Review

Today we continue our Z170 and Skylake motherboard parade with another offering from ASUS. This time, we get to look at the rugged Sabertooth Z170 Mark 1 motherboard. As we know, the Sabertooth line offers a board that should handle a bit more of the rough and tumble situations. It offers an ‘armor’ to protect the board and even dust caps all around to keep the nasties out of where it shouldn’t go. ASUS says it is an “Enduringly-tough Z170 board with ultimate cooling and extreme durability”. So, it’s time to strap the board on to the Humvee and take it out in the desert and…..ok, ok, we won’t do that, but we will put it through its paces and see if it comes out swinging in the end.

ASUS Maximus VIII Gene Motherboard Review

The initial Z170 chipset motherboard offerings from ASUS included several options from their Channel and ROG series. We’ve already had a look at a couple Channel series motherboards in the Z170-Deluxe and Z170-A, so it’s time to step it up a notch and have our first look at a ROG Maximus VIII series motherboard. Currently available in the ROG series are the Maximus VIII Hero, Ranger, and Gene with the higher end Formula and Extreme motherboards to follow this fall. Today, we’ll be looking at the Maximus VIII Gene.
