Well, it's going for $109 with free shipping on Egg. I think it would be a good buy for $80 if the shipping was free or very little. But why would you go with an FX-4100 over a Phenom II X4 when the latter will perform better?

The link below comes into a pretty good article on page 3. It continues on until testing where the CPUs that were tested had NO more effect on the gaming experience.

Some very interesting overall results such that even though the testing was done in 2010, the testing eventually added in a Phenom 2 X4 965 Cpu which has been talked about for use today in a gaming rig. Like I said get to the part where the cpu no longer made a difference and I am willing to bet with the 965 in consideration still today, the results overall are the same for a gaming forecast. The video card makes the most difference overall if there is enough cpu speed.

Why I was intent on not eating up the OPs moneys for no real gain by going to a new AMD rig with a 4 core processor.

Is Overclocking Needed?

Funnily enough some boards with 970 will do crossfire if the mainboard manufacturer implement it even though its not aofficially supported by AMD. Likewise, those boards that don't support it can generally be circumvented with a modded nvidia/amd drivers etc. Not that I would recommend that as such (or ever recommend multiple cards for that matter, I'm not a believer).

Agreed, if he can get hold of it a Phenom II would be the way to go. Easily the best bang for buck solution out there. A currently 4 core FX is not as quick as a 4 core Phenom II. Heck, an FX8150 will not even compete too well with a Phenom II X6. I'm keenly waiting for Piledriver, then one of my mates can get a free FX8120 for his rig :)

P.S I have a GTX 550 Ti i was Thinking Of SLI ing it not sure because one is 16x and one is 4x so this is going to suck trying to SLI might try to sell it get 560 Ti in the Future But for now that should be good Ok Focus on the CPU only Please just hough i add that

You have our input on the CPUs already. It's time for you to make a decision. For 120mm fans, google for Yate Loon fans. They are the best combination of quality and low price I know of and they come in Low, Medium and High speeds. Generally, you can find them for under $5 apiece.

I Might buy a GTX 560 Ti For christmas and sale my old one.

Tip: only the first word in a sentence and proper nouns are capitalized. ;)

Go read up on the Bulldozer architecture. It's not a true octocore (IMO), but it's not a quad core either. It's something between.

Picking a CPU shouldn't be that hard. You should pick a CPU because you play _________ games, and ________ CPU performs better in _________ games according to _______ review and data. All you have to do is find a comparison of the two CPUs using a game that you play or a game that is similar to games you play.

Basically, what I'm saying is to stop listening to people and start looking for numbers and data.

That all comes down to price, I'd get a FX8120 over a Phenom II X4 but this all comes down to what you can buy them for. If you can get a Phenom II X6 then that would be the choice hands down.

On the other hand, you really can't do much by way of an overclock with an FX8120 using a Hyper 212, it simply isn't a high end enough cooler to handle a decent overclock. You need to look at high end air for overclocking the 8 core FX's.

The easiest thing to say its closest to is Intels Hyperthreading, however thats not really accurate either.

ASUS M5A97 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

Open Box

Will run CrossfireX but with one card running at 16x transfer speed and the other at much slower 4x transfer speed since it is cheap 970 chipset. As for SLI it is n0t supposed to run that at all.

Open box means that NewEgg says the manual, the hdd cables, the rear I/O shield, driver disk and manual are in no way assured to be in the Open Box. In other words whatever the new board says is "in the box", is not to be expected with Open Box.

^^^Reasonably certain it drops to 8x, not 4x. Well, thats certainly true of the Asus M5A97-EVO

EDIT: No, you're right. 4x only for the second slot.
