Yeah CPUID says 17-19C on each core when not gaming

Yeah, min temps seem to always be a bit screwy, of course it could be 66F ambient where you are, I don't know. What about temps under load?

Edit: Of course this probably wouldn't matter because I don't think you were getting to full load earlier when you were having problems.

Think Ive sorted it, it was the cheap PSU I have.

Bought a G7 950watt supply today £100 though but so worth it. Call of Duty looks awesome
 
what sort of vcore voltage should i be setting for 3.9 over clock? = Actually whatever is required to pass at least 2 hours of Prime95. Boards vary, brands vary and just how good a piece of silicon you have to use is the real variable. I actually would think if all the 'green' stuff is off and winders is set to performance mode that the 'base' voltage that the board sets would work easily, That is not a large overclock. In fact if I was passing 2 hours of P95 and was going to stay at 3.9Ghz, I might try reducing the voltage until P95 fails the 2 hour test then bump voltage back up a notch until P95 passes 2 hours once again. That is how I would determine my own very best voltage for my own pieces. YMMV.
 
well at 3.9 pc restarted about 5 mins into prime95

That really does not say anything to us in order to help you. No Vcore listed for one thing.

Using screen capture software capture the CPU-z image at the CPU button; the Memory button and the
SPD button. The buttons are across the top of the CPU-z window. The Mainboard button can also be used and will show the bios version in case one wanted to check the motherboard bios being up to date.
NOTE: I never capture the whole monitor but only the CPU-z window at each button so that the dang image is not so...so ginormous.



This is link to HWmonitor and as shown on the screen; you would also check the cpu plus (+) so that the core temps of the cpu would be shown. With an AMD cpu we certainly need to see the core temps at least the later AMD cpus.



Download site for Prime95 with some "how to's" included. Prime 95 can be used to stress a system and with HWMonitor opened a temp log will be kept to see if temps get out of hand during or at the time of a failure of P95, if such does occur because of an unstable configuration.



Okay I have not been looking for a screen capture tool but wish many would use some with window capture instead of the whole screen. This proggie comes highly recommended. 4 Capture Modes: Window, Region, Scrolling and Full Screen. I normally use Window or Region so the whole dang screen is not captured and makes the image so dang large. I save capture to .jpg so files are smaller in general.


NOTE: Win7 also has the inbuilt "snipping" tool that can capture just a specific window of the screen so that the entire desktop is not captured.

No, you're memory is only running at 1333 right now. CPU-z says 667 which is the memory bus speed. To calculate the DDR3 data rate speed multiply that by 2: 667x2=1333. However, your memory will only do 1600 in "XMP" (Xtended or Xtreme Memory Profile) mode which means you will nee to relax some of the timings. See the CPU-z tab: "SPD" to see what I mean. Notice that the tRC will nee to be changed to 41 and the CR will need to be changed from 1T to 2T. These are manual adjustments in bios and you would first have to take the memory timings main header off of Auto to access them. It would also probably help to bump up the memory voltage to 1.55.

Concerning increasing you CPU voltage to be stable at 4.0 ghz no one can tell you how much that would take. You would just need to experiment by increasing it in small increments and stress testing with Prime95 blend while monitoring core temps and CPU temps with HWMonitor. You would need to pass at least a couple hours of Prime95 blend to call it stable. You would need to watch the core temps and keep them at 55 C. or below and the CPU socket temps at 65 or below. The FX chips seem to be really sensitive to high temps from a stability standpoint.
 
right ok thanks, so clock it to 4.0 prime test it then add a little voltage at a time till i run stable :)

As for the memory that has completely lost me lol

When you buy memory advertised as "1600" it is actually 1333 memory that will (or likely will) run at 1600 (in some systems but not all) with some relaxing of the timings and/or extra voltage, which need to be done manually. In normal, default mode it will run at 1333. It's kind of a marketing deception. Does that help?
 
DDR stands for "Double Data Rate". That's why when working with CPU-z you have to multiply by 2 or double the number reported because CPU-z is reporting not the DDRx speed but the underlying bus speed.
