$1,029.22 so far

CD drive, case, power source, hard drive, memory, processor, video card and screen. I think I got it all excluding the mobo. Correct me if I am wrong.

Now as for the mobo, I want something that has an overclock feature, with PCI-E 16x, and at least 3 DDR slots for me to have up to 3 gigs of memory. Also having it fit that processor, and memory. (my biggest fear is not having it compatible, and have the most expensive paper weight of my life, the second part of that is it not booting/installing the OS, making it the most expensive paper weight of my life)

If you're building a new computer, then go with socket 939. S754 is outdated, and you won't get as much out of it (dual channel RAM for example). Change that processor to a 3200+ s939 Venice and for the motherboard, get a DFI Lanparty Ultra-D (2 PCI-E slots, 4 DDR slots, blah blah blah). That'll give you everything you want. Also, if you'll be overclocking, get a different power supply, something like the 500W Fortron Blue Storm (~$75). Aspire PSUs are okay, but they're not great for overclocking.

Soichiro hit it on the head, one thing everyone here will tell you is that make sure you cough up the dough for a good psu. Do not ever use the ones that come with cases. So you can save some money buy getting a case without a psu.

I just built a computer with the same budget as you and my setup goes something like this

AMD Opteron 148 $222 at newegg
DFI Lanpart UT mobo $110? I think. It has 4 ddr slots and such. and x16 PCI-E ( oddly though if your graphics card is long, like my xfx 7800gt it covers and pushes down slightly on the northbridge fan)
Mushkin enhanced performance 2x1Gb sticks DDR500 $240 at the egg

I guess my recommendations would be to get some good 2x1gb sticks of ram. I realize that you are buying a monitor so that does take up a large part of your budget. Also other boards that are good are from Asus or Epox and the like but I dont have any experience with them.

Also make sure you get a decent heat sink. The stock ones arent bad but will suck something raw if you intend to overclock.

I'll update it
thanks

BTW Roofles...that processor you got is only 1 Ghz. Considering I am an AMD newb, is that faster than an Intel 3.0 Ghz Processor H/T? (both not overclocked and overclocked)

I believe the processor is 2 Ghz. The HTT bus (pretty much like the FSB, only different) is 1 Ghz. And yeah it's faster, and will overclock much better than a P4.
