The Inquirer points to another AMD roadmap.
This roadmap is a bit different than the one they showed a few days ago in that this one shows which processor belongs to which socket.
According to this, by Q4 2004, AMD will release socket 939 3200+ and 3000+ processors.
This means overclockers ought to be able to get a socket 939 processor for about $175 by the end of the year, rather than the current $475 or so.
This is good news.
It remains to be seen whether or not these processors will be 90nm, or (more likely) when that might happen. If I had to guess, we’ll see those early next year.
But let’s not make the perfect the enemy of the good.
If you’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting for a socket 939 solution at a somewhat reasonable price, the light is at the end of the tunnel.
If you thought you had to settle for a socket 754 system, just be a little more patient and you won’t.
