Sorry for putting this off everyone but was a little wrapped up in other projects lately. But anyways,

Come one Come all it is time for the Novice Nimble #10. We have competed in the last 4 novice nimbles and have placed 5th, 3rd, 4th and 3rd respectively. Hoping to make a good showing again this round. Looking to get as many members as we can to help compete and maybe entice a few new ones into the benching community. Please feel free to join in the conversation even if not competing. If you are new to the community and interested in giving benching a try feel free to join in on the crazy fun with us.

For those planning on competing:
Please check out the below rules page and competition overview to familiarize yourself with the competition if you would like to compete. Last competition we set up a google hangouts chat to have better team communication and I will be doing this again once we have a few people interested. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help or to improve how the team is organized.

As always, please do not make any submissions until consulting the team so you do not invalidate another team members submission.

Happy benching everyone,

-Lochekey

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Depending on the turn out we get for this round I may or may not compete in the next one because I will be moving up to the extreme league before the end of the Team Cup.

I have gone ahead and subbed with a GTX 960 for Stage 3 already but can pull that sub if someone else wants to run a 960 I have some other cards that can be run in place of that.

This is something I'd love to give a try!
However I won't be home to participate in this one
And I have yet to really learn how to properly OC
It's on the agenda though. So look forward to seeing
me in the next one! :D

More the merrier Haturee. There's always someone here who'll help you OC. You'll learn sooo much doing this it's mind bottling. HE he

Hey Haturee,

Welcome aboard. This is unfortunately going to be the last round for me as I'm moving up in leagues on the 8th. M@RK is going to continue to compete I believe as this will be his first Novice Nimble so he will be around for awhile.

I suggest waiting to sign up at HwBot until you have your system together so that you can compete in the rookie rumbles before moving up to the novice nimble. You will only be able to compete in the Rookie league for 3 months after you sign up and then in the novice league for an additional 9 months after that so you don't want to waste any of that time.

In the meantime I suggest you go over to HwBot and familiarize yourself with the site and read the rules on the different benchmarks. There is also plenty of guides around here to help you get started you can read in the meantime.

Two final thoughts and that is enough from me for now,

First, buy yourself a second ssd. It does not have to be anything special, pretty much any 120gb ssd will do. Dedicate this drive to a benching OS and only run this when benching. You will eventually break an OS and you do not want it too be your daily driver.

Second,
Let me be the first to warn you this is highly addictive:D

Well that is enough from me for now feel free to look me up when you are ready to start competing and I will be glad to help.

Good deal M@rk, in the future if you attach links to the submissions it makes things a lot easier for everyone.

Hey M@RK.

Firestrike looks good.

You will need to redo hwbot x265 though. The one screenshot you included is for gpupi and the one that is for hwbot x265 does not meet the requirements you need cpuz open with the cpu and memory tabs.

Okay thanks :)
I couldnt find another link to gpupi and i downloaded from hwbot(the link in thier site), Can you give me the correct link please? Thanks :)
Ill fix it when i come back from work.

Also, Do you have a AMD CPU? If you dont, Can i bench my grandmas laptop for a few points atleast?

M@RK,

I don't understand, why are you running gpupi? The competition is for hwbot x265@1080. Yes I have an AMD system I am going to run but bear in mind we need 3 submission for each stage so you can submit with whatever you have and it should not affect me.

In the exaple screenshot it showed the gpupi.. So i assumed i need it in the screenshot too :p

That looks like a screw up on their end. You do not need gpupi for this. Just the x265 GUI and results along with cpu and memory tabs from cpuz.

Ok, Delete the wrong submission and upload a new one. Should i Also bench on my testing rig?

In this competition you are allotted one submission per stage, so pick the best hardware you have got each stage and run that.

If you come over and compete in the team cup with us there is stages where you can run all your equipment to compete with.

Hmm Okay thanks :)
And invite me to the hangout group :p

Also update on the guy im buying the R9 270 from: Hes a really nice and chill guy, We talked for a hour and a half about pc related stuff, He doesnt exactly know how parts work but he got general knowledge. Ill buy the card later this day (Well its midnight now so its already today lol). Ill update the submission i have done and do some benching to test and see how well its performing. Its GTX950 performace.

That 270 should be a decent upgrade for you.

I looked at your new x265 sub and it looks good. Now you just need to start cranking that chip:D
http://hwbot.org/submission/3279755_mark734_hwbot_x265_benchmark___1080p_core_i5_6600k_18.56_fps

I'll get a hangout going tonight and send you an invite.

Thanks :)
The 270 is working perfectly fine but one thing, One of the fans is really noisy and i dont really like it, some tips on how to fix it or something?
Also changed the TIM on the 270 to Arctic MX4 and done some cable management, For a first time i think its pretty good :p.

Im thinking about buying a new cooling for my CPU with the next paycheck, And i wonder which one of the coolers is better, One is Noctua NH D14, And the second one is Arctic liquid freezer 240. Im going to OC my CPU to the max so what cooler should i choose? They are in the same pricerange.

If you get an AIO you should get a decent one or it's not much better than air. 3x120mm since you plan on going the limits.
