Just wondering if there's anything special to do for very hot days and idle temps sky rocket... do we take 'em as they come or underclock :(

Really there isn't much you can do, expect things you'd do to cool yourself down. Either crank the AC, or if your hot with no AC a fan in your face helps alot, so open up the case and point a nice house fan inside for a few weeks.

Easing back on your OC'ing can help too.

Last week our AC died in the house...well didn't die but clogged up and was leaknig water everywhere. Suffice to say for a day and half we didn't have AC which lead to some pretty warm temps in the house. Since ambient went up, so did CPU core temps. There really is little you can do expect try and get ambient back to normal through air conditioning or better room ventilation.
