Will this hardware work on PC-BSD?

i think you'll like PC-BSD. give it a try. If you're unsure about wiping your disk and starting fresh, give it a try in Qemu first.

why dont you just use freebsd, ya know its the best.

DesktopBSD & PC-BSD are FreeBSD with a more automated installer and a few other addons. Even with PC-BSD you don't have to use their package managment. You can still use ports in the usual way.

I'll try PC-BSD just as soon as I get my spare 40GB drive installed. I don't have the time to climb any steep OS learning curves while I'm striving for all 'A's in college.

What's the worst that can happen? Nothing that a reformat can't cure LOL.
