In anyones opinion, will this motherboard do me well for the ram type and the CPU? Or just go with something else that would last me for another 2/3 years

read the thread, your better off going core 2 duo, its better all the way around. i just linked you to a thread that started just like yours and will end the same, little easier.

whats to know?

a computer is a computer...

you want a parts list? I can post one for you and many people will chime in to help you also.

And by the I do not know nothing of Intel is because the last time I messed with one was 6 years ago and it was a p3 450mhz cache type cpu...

Is the CPU installation different than AMD for the core 2 duo?

I'm aware it takes different ram and motherboard but not how the CPU goes in

e6300, i know your gonna say its more than 300mhz slower than that windsor but it will spank the pants of it, and the one I just put together does 3.2ghz.

arguably the best mobo out for conroe,
if it was me i would buy it from TG cuz its verified new rev 3

these are the best IC's on any ram, D9 from micron, they are 667 but are binned over 800, I have a set in the other room doing 900+ on rated voltage at 4-4-4-8 timings.

or these stix is fine also, they are the same memory.

the seagate perps are the best drives out now, i linked the 320's cuz the 250 is out of stock.

if your gonna drop that kind of money on a video card, you may wanna consider a DX10 card especially if you hang onto your stuff for a while.

If $300 is your price range than I would recommend a x1900xt 512 or a x1950xt 256, ATI is much better in the $300 segment of the market right now.

^Yes it will but i opted for the normal P5b for a little less and it works great. The c2d is just much better than the AMD X2. Installation is very easy and self explanatory for the cpu. Much easier than the earlier P4s with socket 478 which were a pain in the butt to install the clamps and such.

okay are there any popular cheaper ram? or you have a link for a list of them..

Same as for the motherboard my price limit went way overboard

all together it is $890.66 except the motherboard and the ram I have a gut feeling about that type of ram...and the motherboard is way too pricey Can I get your MSN rattle?

And is that PSU good for the whole set up? Or are there better ones at a lower price

well there's a set of gskills that are ddr2 800 and $200 they probably will only oc 50mhz but not a bad deal, you could get a DS3 for $150 instead of he p5b deluxe, but it lacks certain features and has mem compatability issues. msn is in profile

I perfer this setup
CPU: E6400 or 6600 I dislike the E6300 because of it's multipler... a 7 multiplier is very very hard to work with. to reach any speed at all you'll need a 500FSB (3.5ghz)... 500 FSB is fine but it's putting alot of stress on the board and there's no gurantee in that... i have not see alot of people getting up to 500FSB... most stays in the midrage of 400-450 where the chip set can handle. u do have to put a bit of money on the E6400 or 6600 though.

Mobo: there's a few choices... if you go with the E6600 then i've heard people recommending the 975 chipset vs the 965 for some reason... but let just assume you'll go with the 965 chipset... we have the ASUS P5B, Abit AB9, Gigabyte DS3, Biostar Tforce... remember all these lines have up/down versions like the delux/pro... i suggest the ASUS line... they get good FSB and not many report problem with over heating north bridge... the ABIT line is good all around but will not pass 400FSB and bios have been not so great, but abit generally have good quality product... the DS3/S3 line are good budget board, but many if not all require NB replacement cooler, if u add that in it's just gonna screwed the price up.

RAM: i've heard alot of people talk about the D9 micron chips... but they are generally rated at PC5400... i don't feel safe with that.. if it doesn't OC for some reason you're scewed... i perfer the PC6400 line (g.skill for 200 for 2GB)... u're gurantee 400mhz... normally these will hit 450+ but u know u are getting 400... the other set not so much... and if u get the E6400 u can get 400 X 8 = 3.2ghz that's a good range to look at.

CASE: i did not like the case you listed... it's just WOW ugly and nothing that stands out. the case u look at everyday, make it look good :)... i suggest the ~100 price range case.. u get very nice deals like the P180 or some other thermaltake case... most important things are fan placement. removeable HDD rack (trust me on this one)...window, noise level, fan size, case size...

PSU: any good brand over 500W.... key is is "cheap" but not "bad brand" cheap... also look for a 120mm fan on these, they really knock down the noise

Sound card: i suggest one because it saves CPU power... plus it's cool... and it sounds better :)... the x-fi lines are pretty cool... cheaper is the audigy 2 line where prices are dropping everywhere. i think it's good enough.

vid card: if u gonna blow money on one, maybe grab a cheap one now and wait for the DX10 to be full blown... they'll get cheaper that way...

this is not totally true, first off you'll be hard pressed to find a 6300 or 6400 that does 3.5 air, secondly all the 667's D9's do 800 or higher I have never seen a set that doesnt, also if your going 6300 or 6400 p965 is the only way to go, for me there is no 6400 cuz the p5b deluxe will top out before the 6300 does most the time anyway so your not even gonna have to OC like crazy to top out a 6300. The one I just built is using 667 crucial on a p5b deluxe with e6300, 458x7 1:1 3200mhz 14 hours orthos stable. 458 is a walk in the park for the board and ram. Just because you have a 8 multi doesnt mean it will OC higher, you may and up at 400x8 instead of 458x7, end of the day it comes out to $40 more in your pocket for the same thing. In essence these 2 FSB is not a spread for the board, so its not like your doomed without a 8 multi is what I am trying to say.

457 X 7 is faster than 400 X 8... but there's a reason intel made those E6300 and E6400... the E6400 is bin higher by the factory, there's a higher chance of hitting better speed... there's a few E6300 that does very nice speed but generally the higher the factory bin the higher the chip goes... i've seen quite a few E6600 hitting over the 3.5 mark but that thing is expensive... i think the midrange E6400 is the better choice.

'you may end up with 400x8 instead of 458x7' true but that's stating only the pessimist worst-case viewpoint. You may also end up with (400-450)x8 which is the optimist viewpoint. It's basically paying for the chance that you get a good clocking chip and won't me motherboard or ram limited.
