if your failing at on small then its your cpu not the ram. if memtest is failing then yes both are a problem. you cant just rule out one cause it ran fine before, if its high speed micron based ram. then its highly possible the ram is having issues.

up the NB and cpuvtt voltage then...
 
Just ran small fine at 405 Mhz.
Failed after 1 minute in large.
NB - 1.4v
Vcore - 1.21
Ram - 1:1 @ 2.2v
Strap locked at 333
Transaction Booster - 10
GTL Ref - .63

Maybe if you could explain why it went so well with the E8600 but won't with my Q9550 I'd have a better understanding of what might be going on.

disable transaction booster in bios and give it another go...

Q's are quads they put more stress on voltages and the nb when oced vs a dual core.
 
Yeah I've tried with TB on auto. I just did that 'cause it was suggested I try it. If it's the thing I'm thinking of you can't disable it. You have it on a particular number OR set it to auto.
