Well, they have the PS3 seti app in alpha (thread here) and I was thinking of getting one. Plus the new cpu in my laptop seems to be doing well (up to 1100rac and still climbing.)

Like muddocktor I too was a victim of gustav. Then Ike came and flooded the damn place. Hopefully thats it for hurricanes this year, my RAC is suffering.

Farm is coming up and should start producing again.

Woo! In just about a month I made it into 6-digit after I started using an SSSE3 optimized client. Going to start moving other machines over to an optmized client, can probably double my current RAC.

Way to go everyone.

And to tell the truth, I never noticed until now that I had taken 1st place away from nik! It's been so hectic here the last month or so with these damn hurricanes that I never even looked at my total points and hardly ever at my RAC. But I'm sure that razorface and svirfnebli will boot me back to third soon enough.

Hey Mud, you got pretty close to me! If you evac this way again, look me up! I also make regular trips to New Iberia...is that close to you?

Yeah, I live around 12 miles from New Iberia and when most people ask where I live I tell them New Iberia instead of Loreauville as they stand a better chance of knowing where New Iberia is. Let me know ahead of time if possible on your next trip to town and we'll see if we can meet up. BTW, I was actually born in Jackson, Mississippi myself, but we moved to Monroe before I was 1 so obviously I don't remember a thing about it.

Milestone Update!

Another pleasant Sunday morning! I've noticed several people either wanting to or going ahead with giving AstroPulse a try. Don't know what kind of numbers that will yield as yet but keep in mind you can't run optimized while using it. As we get numbers to work with I'll try and let you know how it's working out.

Svirfnebli, still taking names and closing on the leaders, has made the 6,000,000 Milestone!

QuietIce has somehow managed to gain the 5,000,000 Milestone!

william has kept a steady pace and taken the 2,000,000 Milestone!

Duner has crunched down over 1,250,000 Cobblestones!

BrightMorn is the newest member of the 7-Digit Club!

Codeman05 has broken through the 750,000 Milestone!

JHeizer has made the 600,000 Milestone!

jh2b has crunched 300,000 Cobblestones!

Tristan has made the Top 175!

Alec Hussey and
Drinkyoghurt have both made the Top 200!

A big round for this week's Milestone takers ...!

There will be Milestones this week. I saved the pages yesterday afternoon so I'd have them and I processed this morning. Format and post this evening, I hope, but it'll still reflect a Sunday posting. :)

Edit: Well, obviously that didn't happen (other "stuff" did).
At least I'll have last weeks' DAC to use since I saved those pages ... :)

Well, this weeks' Milestones isn't going to happen either. I couldn't figure out what was going on last week but it's now confirmed the main rig's boot drive is quickly failing. You never know how custom your rig is until you're stuck using another machine. :( Step one was installing a RAID 5 Tb drive on the file server and I think I've finally got everything backed up to it. What a PITA!

This is the first time I've had a drive failure in many, many years. Maybe it's time to go ahead and slap together another main rig instead of re-installing all my programs back into this older Opty system. :-/

Edit: (Thur 9 Oct) Well, finally got the drives swapped but a lot of data is trash. Nothing serious except about a week of encrypted data I've lost for good. I expected the encryption to be legible after the install (since it's the same Windows license and machine) but it isn't. So much for RAID1 being the perfect back-up. :( There are still a ton of programs not installed and I'm still debating the upgrade switch at this point, which seems like the best option now that the essentials are back up and running.

At this point I may as well wait for Sunday to do the Milestones again - it's gonna' be a big list ...

Eep. Good luck getting your system back up and running QIce. Whats the deal with the encrypted files not being readable on the mirror drive? Do you think it might have been a bad mirror, or simply a flaw in the way windows deals with encryption?

Good luck with that.

I'm with Careface though, what's the deal with the encryption? Unless your using FDE (and I'm not certain even about that), the encrypted data should not be dependent upon the install - it should be dependent upon the algorithm and the key. Right?

Milestone Update!

Well, it's been three weeks since the last Milestones update. Sorry about the huge time lag but I was dealing with loosing the system HDD on my main rig. RMA, swapping drives, and installing programs is always just too fun to mention. As you might have guessed there have been a lot of Milestones since then and I hope I caught them all. If I missed anybody please PM me and I'll gladly correct the error. In case you haven't heard ...

Ethre has also crashed through the 50,000 Milestone and taken the 75,000 Milestone as well!

Grats to all. RAC should be getting a bit of a boost today, the full-time q6600 is getting a g45 (via Asus P5Q-EM), nzxt rogue upgrade, TRUE120 and six Silvertone 120mm case fans today ... aiming for 3.6 GHz after the upgrades. This will probably be the last upgrade for the year. Going to wait from some mATX nehalem boards show up or just go with another case that I found that's not overly large but will handle a full size ATX board. After reading up on the x7400 series Xeon processors, Im now wishing those last penryn jobs would filter down to the rest of the product line, but it doesn't appear that is going to happen.

Thank you for such a warm welcome! I plan on adding more crunchers to help the team shortly. I will not be one of you big dogs, but every bit helps. From my pending units, I should break 100k as soon as they all get uploaded/verified.

It turns out most of SETI is crunched by people running it on one or maybe two machines as a screen saver. The "big dogs" may have their place but they are few and far between compared to all the other people running SETI just like you. :)

It's good to have you with us ...!
