I think we should compile our 4.2 competition threads into a concise section for each of the 2 so far on what each bench likes. Also, typo on the prize pool, it says 2001 not 2011. Good idea miah!

I was talking with Raymond at the bench party and one major change since last wars people are missing is:

(1) Changes... Since the last War:

...

* There will be 2 parts of the War's scoring competition where each forum's rank is added twice. (This encourages early posting to boost a forum's position in the overall winner)

(14) Overall Scoring Award:

* Forum rankings from the "A through G" teams are added up on 2 occasions (Feb 25th/Mar 5th) and the lowest total wins the overall Contest (Ultimate Win)

For example:

Class B results after 1st deadline
1st ocn = 1 point
2nd ocf = 2 points

Class B results after last minute submissions
1st ocf = 1 point
2nd ocn = 2 points

We'd actually be tied with 3 points. Anyone relying on last minute submissions could lose even when taking "1st".

Class C results after 1st deadline
1st ocf = 1 point
2nd ocn = 2 points
3rd trp = 3 points

Class C results after last minute submissions
1st trp = 1 point
2nd ocf = 2 points
3rd ocn = 3 points

ocf = 3 points, trp = 4 points, ocn = 5 points

I am a little confused about how this works now... so does each forum get a 3 person team per class? Or... couldn't find the rules...

I am a little confused about how this works now... so does each forum get a 3 person team per class? Or... couldn't find the rules...

Rules

Basically:

  • Each team is a compilation of Classes A-G
  • Each class is filled by 3 members/rigs of the respective team
  • Your class is determined by the sorting algorithm based on the number of CPU cores/number of GPU's/ and cooling method used.
  • You submit your stock scores on the first day (just to make sure you can make a correct submission)
  • Then we go to war: You do everything you can to get the best score you can. It looks like there are two submission periods this time-Feb 25th and the deadline Mar 5th.
  • We win
During this time each individual Class will have an evolving thread in this section, that is used to store your submissions, collaborate with your team on tweaks, get suggestions on what you can do to improve, and basically push each other to the limits! One member of each class will control the initial post in the thread. We will have a policing officer(or two) that will make sure your submissions are correct. Traditionally to win, you simply have to make sure everyone correctly submits overclocked scores. You will have other teams that have members commit to submitting scores, but wind up not doing so. There is no way you can win a class when one member doesn't submit or submits incorrectly. We are STICKLERS on this. There will also be a private google spreadsheet that will be updated with your current scores. You will have goals set for you by a senior participant, these will be reflected in the spreadsheet.

How do you know which class you are in? And if there's more than 3 people who qualify for a class how are we to decide who is in and who isnt?

Edit: never mind, I am in G-class =)
Would using the computer outside in 0C or less ambients with a regular tower cooler be considered extreme? I am a 5 right now. (4threads + 1gpu).

The team leaders and their helpers determine who goes in what class with the specific hardware handicaps they have in place.

As far as more than 3 people, good question... the object is to win this thing so I would imagine whoever has the best chance to do so, or can come down/up a class. Not sure though, Im not a decision maker. :)

In years past you'd be placed in whichever category you'd fit best to help out the team based on your equipment. Usually this is determined by the team captain.

Edit: What EarthDog said..... :D

The team captain does all that work. We just need to sign up, when told, list hardware we are running, when told, then sit back and let the chips fall where they may.

All you'll really have to do once we get things rolling is post up what hardware you can run in a hardware thread that will be created later. Then our leaders will decide which class you would help us out the most in. From there you bench, bench, bench that hardware. For those of us not doing the spreadsheet, or a leader, it is pretty painless (outside of hardware death) since we have some AWESOME leaders and helpers.
