According to this Digitimes article, Intel plans price drops on selected CPUs.
These price changes were based on inputs from motherboard manufacturers on Taiwan. The price schedules show drops ranging from 13 – 20% in April, new CPUs introduced during May and more price drops for selected CPUs in July.
Notable is the Core 2 Quad 9300 with a 20% price drop to $216.
As business continues to deteriorate, it is not unreasonable to expect some further price drops to clear the supply channel. Intel is aggressively accelerating their move to Core i5 with a planned launch the third quarter of this year. No way do they want old stuff clogging up the move to the new.
I would not be surprised to see some interesting pricing during the late summer – keep your eyes peeled.
